i had 9 1/2 minutes to take a quick look at the st patrick's day parade up fifth avenue here in nyc today... even less time to process!

canon 20d, 10-22 ef-s aboard, shot at 10mm. f/5.6, 1/100th sec, iso 200. shot in raw, developed twice and blended in ps cs, to balance the exposure upper right (strong overcast conditions here today).

canon 20d, 10-22 ef-s aboard, shot at 22mm. f/5.6, 1/60th sec, iso 200. shot in raw, developed twice and blended in ps cs, to balance the exposure of the white in the flags.

:eat yes, of course, lunch today was corned beef & cabbage. no piccies though.

enjoy (parade) photography,

Very nice, Andy. The first is a good example of the value you put on shooting people in context. Love the composition of the second.

    lol3.gif yeah gus....

i dig the 10-22 - it's really a "creative" lens. at 10mm, (16 on a 1.6x body) it takes some getting used to, but boy the thing is sharp! i'm impressed with the quality. the lens does fringe somewhat, in high contrast areas (e.g. a building against the sky).. but it's easy to fix with shay's shay's color fringe remover. since this isn't a main-use lens, i'm quite fine with the extra few minutes of processing time if i do need to remove any fringing. some folks get all bent out of shape over fringing, but i tell ya, i've seen fringing on most lenses under certain circumstances.

so, for now, as long as i can create interesting images with the 10-22, i'm keeping it. i'll give it a good workout at yosemite, i'm sure. i also have the 24 f/1.4L just recently purchased, and i'm looking forward to having a butcher's with that....

sid - thank you. i thought hard about the cops/flags shot. they were stalled to my left for a good five minutes, so i was prepared, and i just hoped that they'd be stalled again in front of me. it happened, i shot, and i'm really pleased with the result. i thoroughly enjoy a symmetrical shot from time to time, don't you?

i almost had it with this one:

Jebus how many things do i need to know !!

Man life was soooo easy just shootin' Jpegs.

You got me with Shays fringe remover...its after midnight here & ive been at the casino all night & im looking at his samples & trying to process what is going on....they were flashing & i thought it was my eyes :giggle

Im in a real pickle over which to buy the 10-22 or the 17-40...guess you will have to give me some more 10-22 samples.

gus: you won't be unhappy with either lens. but as you shoot 'podded nearly all the time when you do landscapes, go ahead and get the 17-40 - you won't regreat it :D

What would the advantage of podded be ?? Better framing ?

momentary brain fart - was thinking abt comparing the 17-40 f/4 against 16-35 f/2.8, and the speed issue.

    Great photos, Andy!
I'm very glad to meet your photos again, Andy!
Did you use Unsharp for man's face on the first photo.
For me its a bit 'over'.
Do you make framing and composing 'with you legs'?
    Do you use zoom?
    Spasibo,
    Yuri

spasibo, yuri :) :nono no sharpening on that old guy... the lens is sharp! i was at 10mm on the canon 10-22... i'll zoom if i have it, but mostly these days i'm shooting with a 24mm or 35mm prime lens.

    cheers

Great shots. The clarity is always spot on with your work, but what I really enjoy is the subjects you pick and how you capture them. Your shots always show me more than just a picture of a person. thumb.gifthumb.gif

    Andy,

Like everyone else I am blown away by the first shot. The portrait really jumps out at me. I know you were a big fan of the F828 (my current cam), but the 2OD seems so impressive (in your hands I think anything is). This is making me think that the Rebel XT might be my next camera. Canon seems to have it going on.

    regards,

    Gary

your wish is my command, my dear iloveyou.gif

unprocessed, just converted from the raw file:
    18292745-L.jpg

    and here the processed file:

canon 20d, 10-22 ef-s aboard, shot at 22mm. f/5.6, 1/60th sec, iso 200. shot in raw, developed twice and blended in ps cs, to balance the exposure of the white in the flags.

    17682882-L.jpg

notice the white on the flags was brought down in my actual edit, done thru the raw conversion. i also straighted, and evened things out a tad. curved up the faces some, too. or i might have dodged the faces, i don't remember lol3.gif

    any questions, please hollah!

Quite educational: the before and afters.

I also love the way your photos with that lens turned out. I looked up the price on it the other day, and I envy your possessing it. (But I am happy you do, so I can see the results)

    Very Cool...
Wow Andy, :jawdrop the unprocessed looks like it is from a cheap camera (not the compostion).

The second is much crisper. Beautiful!!

So the first one would actually be what the JPEG would look like?
And what do you mean by processed twice?

    Love this photo! thumb.gif

RAW shooting looks fun! Something new to learn.

    Thanks Andy!

dean - thanks for the kind words. yes, you'll begin to see the power of raw soon...once you have your dslr.

take a look here as a starter. then you start learning to do it on your own, it's a cinch.

    thansk!
