You won't find a widescreen model for $300 USD that has an IPS panel unless it is a refurb.

There have been NEC LCD20WMGX2 refurb units around but I have not seen an inquiry or "hot price" post on these for several months.

The NEC unit is 20" and it has a glossy screen unlike the HP monitor you inquired about which has a matte screen.

Directron, out of Texas, were the last reseller I know of to have some of these NEC's.

You may want to look at a Acer Ferrari F20. Not s-ips (although I've seen it referred to as s-ips on some sites), but good quality. I doubt whether you're going to find too many lowend s-ips monitors.

    Useful threads here and here.

Useful place to find what panel is in an LCD monitor.

I've just been through the exercise, and ended up buying an HP LP2465. It has an S-PVA panel and is very highly rated. Price is good at the mo, (but a bit outside your range) as it's being replaced by the HP LP2475w.

Glossy will make for more vibrant color, but at the cost of being reflective. If you work in an environment that has well controlled lighting, then glossy is generally a good thing, but if you're going to be using the computer, say, in a room near a window, you'd probably be better off with matte.
