I LOVE Displacement Maps! (Three Images)

I started shooting textures of walls, ground, or anything that look interesting awhile back with my D50 with no real reason at the time. While after spending way too many hours with CS2, I finally figured out how to put those textures to use. Its called displacement maps.

    Ok, I am working so I mocked this up in a hurry. I highly expect typos and grammer errors. Feel free to correct what needs correcting and reposting it.
    This is just a MS Word 2003 document. Once I hear that people can follow it, I will make an html version. Firefox users will need to right click and save-as:

    The one with the wall or the tree look so natural.

    I converted it to a PDF with Adobe Acrobat Pro if that's ok? ne_nau.gif
    Permission to freely share it?

    Laughing.gif I have a slew of stuff I dropped to PDF from the web if I need it or someone else does.
    Acrobat Pro is great!
    Can drop web pages to PDF and convert about any document.

    question: when you duplicate the background and add it as a new layer and choose "hard light" for the blending...it darkens the resulting overall photo...what step did I miss to avoid that?

    Thanks...such a fun skill!

    Not sure who this was directed to. I use overlay and multiple. Just expirement around with different layer blends and you'll find something you like.

    I love that effect. Noticed Truth's idea for the challenge using 2006 campaign papers and self portrait.

    I couldn't download the file. I did save a tutorial I found. But Kelby's Photoshop CS2 book has a few pages on it, too. I turned the page down on it. I don't have a file of backgrounds, should, will. I love this effect.

    Kelby's info in that book starts on page 326 and has nine steps. I hope it is not too complicated, smile. really a cool look.
