We had our first little bit of thunder chasing (if you can call it that on foot :D ). Just for kicks I decided to use my IR-modified camera and came up with this:

I kinda like how the near infrared makes summer look more like winter :D

    Looks pretty slick. Good capture.
I always wanted to lie naked on a bearskin rug in front of a fireplace. Cracker Barrel didn't take kindly to it.

Thank you very much for the encouraging comments! thumb.gif

I haven't done a whole lot with the IR-camera - I did the mod for astrophotography and haven't been under good skies since...

It is fun when inpiration gets you though, here's my best IR-work. :D

Pretty nice result. thumb.gif With lightning it can be a real challenge to have
everything line up just right. Like being pointed in the right direction
for starters. Well.... I guess camera settings are the actual starting point.
:D Lastly... not getting zapped for your efforts. mwink.gif

Had it pointing almost in the right direction, had it on almost the right settings, did better on the not getting zapped part lol3.gif

Got rained on a bit though, but that sort of happens as part of the deal with this stuff :D

Your settings looks to be exactly right there. A hot bolt blows the shot
and a low light bolt might get recorded. No accounting for these things.
Its skill, chance and someone loves you. thumb.gif

Zapped gets me really weirded out. mwink.gif My last two times out I got nothing
cause the lighting quit and the rain was well ahead of the fronts. I invested a good 110 miles chasing and watching doppler + strike
indicators. I love a good storm so I don't so much mind missing the shot.
In vehicle not on foot... no wet. Mostly. But I carry plastic garbage bags for the gear in case I push things too close. Soak me but not my gear. :D

What I did get on last effort was a playing with light shot that I am
pretty happy with. It was too strange. But then I guess thats the best
part of it. Strange is good. :D

It was close enough to be rescued, I could have tried a stop or two more light, but then that would have hurt the contrast against the lightning bolt :D

I haven't been on a real storm chase yet, spose chances of finding meself on one are much higher this summer :D
