SmugMug - Slideshow Music
Is it possible to enable music option for slideshow only?

I've read several threads and wiki to configure music for individual pages or galleries but have not come across anything specific to the slideshow mode.

Music on a website is such a hit and miss thing. If there ever is a place for it, a slideshow might be it.

Any help is appreciated,

Here's the Smugmug wiki page on adding music to your Smugmug site.

If you add the music HTML to your bio (after the </script> tag that ends your slideshow definfition, then the music will only play on your homepage where your slideshow is because that's the only page that the bio code is included on.

maybe the method your describing can be extrapolated to what i'd like to use it for....

but i'd like to have music for the slideshow capability at the gallery level... not for the front page. the thought is, if somebody were to view a full screen slideshow... they are looking for a multimedia viewing experience. i'd like to supplement for a song preferably suitable for the gallery.

I find your premise interesting. I do enjoy looking at some photos via the full screen slideshow, but nothing will drive me away from a site faster if that slideshow opens to music.

Yes, I know, some people love music on web sites. But I also know I am not the only person who will leave the site immediately.

Make sure that you knw your audience...

Hi. I'm looking for answers to this.. if someone has already answered this somewhere.. can someone post a link.. so that i can find it.

Here is what i am trying to do:
when my slideshow pops up.. i would like a small pop up box (music player to appear ) - not playing music... at first. but would be available.

does anyone know how to do this?

already have a playlist and code.. just need to know how to embed and where to embed the code to make it do the above.

You just have to put music on the homepage. Search dgrin for "music homepage" and there are many threads discussing how to do it.

you can add the player as a div and the html to the gallery description or as a footer blocked to that gallery only with the div tag you give it. same as in your bioBox but now you choose to do the gallery description, top of your page or your footer and use css and have it at the bottom.
enjoy.

thanks john. that is true and would solve one problem for me.

but the intention of this thread early on was to enable specific music for any gallery ONLY when the slideshow viewing feature was selected. when they would view in say smugmug view, then there would be no music.

I had no idea you were talking about a gallery slideshow. That is possible, but would probably take some special javascript coding. I haven't seen anyone do that before.

Also, most of the time my speakers are not even on by default. If they are and I hear music, its the first thing I shut off. I think if you have a slideshow with music, then there ought to be a way to shut it off by the user with a slideshow control. And like you said....target it to a specific audience you know will want to listen to it.

Agree 100%! Any music, and I'm off immediately! Even if you do like music, the chances of the chosen music being to your taste is pretty remote.

Now if it played Pink Floyd, Santana, the Who and such, I may listen for a bit, but that is probably unlikely

I, too, would like the option of being able to have music stream in some galleries when the viewer chooses to view a slideshow, or if I force the view to slideshow.

Many postings with regard to embedding music point us to this wiki page
http://wiki.smugmug.net/display/Smug...w+To+Add+Music

This page then points you to http://www.smugmug.com/gallery/50416...02927764_Bw73A as an example of music embedded in a gallery.

Is there a way to add code to the css which will hide the visibility of the player, the title, and the name of the artist from every gallery description EXCEPT the slideshow. I don't want to hide the gallery description; only the player, title and artist from every gallery description except slideshows.

Wouldn't that effectively allow you to play music ONLY for slideshow viewing?

Karan:

I appreciate your pining for the option of music only in a slideshow gallery. While it certainly would be easier if it were built into smugmug, I can tell you how I have tried to work around it.

The best that I can suggest is to embed a slideshow in a gallery description. For example, I will refer to your portrait gallery. Make a second portrait gallery; you may need to change the NiceName in order for smugmug to accept it, add a character like the number 2 to the Nicename. I find that the new Journal style works well for this. Embed slideshow code generated from smugmug in one of two ways, either through the Gallery>Share button>show off and then configure a slideshow and copy the embed code or use something called the SmugShow Builder (I think this gives you a few more options to customize) http://smugshowbuilder.appspot.com/

Get your code (generated from your original portrait gallery) and dump it into the new portrait gallery description in between html tags:
<html>dump your code</html>
Then you can embed music; magnatune is a good source and I see you have discovered it. Add it just beneath the slideshow code, but before the closing </html> tag. You may need to add <br> for spacing. You can add the <br> more than once if you need. If you want the embedded player centered under the slideshow, then put <center> before you enter your music code. Depending on how fussy you are, if you are not happy with how that formats the placement of your music player, then you may need to create a div id for the player. Post back on the board for instructions on on how to do that if necessary.

Once you have the slideshow and your music set up, if you want your viewers to be able to see your images also in a more traditional viewing style, you can add a linkable line of text that will take your viewers back to your original portrait gallery, only go into the gallery settings and make the original gallery unlisted. And if you want an image to show up as the gallery thumbnail for the slideshow portrait gallery, then copy one from the original gallery, move it to the slideshow gallery and then hide it with css code (you can also use css to hide anything else you don't want visible in the slideshow gallery)

If you look on my site, you will see multiple instances of this setup in my Fine Art Photography galleries, except that the code I embedded for the slideshow was created with a plugin for Lightroom called SlideshowPro. That's a whole other post. But you can get pretty close by generating slideshow code through smugmug, embedding that in the gallery description and then embedding the music.

It's not perfect, but it's the best work around I have been able to come up with.

Hope that helps.
Regards,
