Hi Folks! On March 17th we released a new version of our Full Screen Slideshow and also the gallery-style slideshow.

If you are having any difficulties with the slideshow, we want to help, and we'll do it here. Some things we need to know when you reply:

1. We need to know your installed flash version, for IE (if you use it) and for other browsers. Go to this page at Adobe and tell us the results.

2. We need to know what browser you are using, and the version, and on what Operating System. E.g., IE6 on WinXP; IE7 on Windows Vista Home Premium; Firefox 2.0.0.13 on Mac OS X 10.5.

3. We need a direct gallery link to where you are having the problem.

4. Tell us if you can use the Full Screen Slideshow here in this gallery.

5. Tell us if you can see the Full Screen Slideshow using this share link.

6. If you can see #5 and cannot see #4, can you see the full screen at Adobe's Full Screen test here.
(click the full screen mode on the left, then let the demo load, then click full screen view button on the movie).

7. If you cannot see SmugMug's Full Screen Slideshow, or the Cars Movie Demo in full screen or the Adobe Full Screen Demo in full screen, you may have a hardware issue with full screen. Try disabling hardware acceleration in the flash player.

Some of you may have all the right stuff but have customizing that is getting in the way of your Full Screen Slideshow:
  • modifying the breadcrumb with javascript
  • having the olde javascript slideshow installed still

Looking for Shizam's Homepage Slideshow? Right Here.

EDIT (April 9th, 2008): We updated the site to support the latest Adobe Flash version (9,0,124,0). You DO NOT require this version but if you have it or get it, you'll be fine. :)

EDIT (August 31, 2008): Adblock Plus and Firefox3 aren't playing well with FS Slideshow and Flash. Sorry :( We're trying to work on this and overcome the issue with Adblock plus, updates when we have them....

    The symptoms are really strange too: not only does the slideshow not show up, but the button doesn't seem to be receiving a click. It's as if there is no onclick defined. When I click on any URL, my machine is set to make an audible 'click'...it does not click when I press the slideshow button. However, my cursor DOES change to 'clickable' when I mouse-over the slideshow button! Just nothing happens when I click! Weird!

    I'm jumping into the fray a little late here. I was in Vegas for a week at WPPI and I come back to all these changes! But I'm not complaining, I love the idea of the slideshow, if I can get it to work.

    I previously made my own post about my slideshow problems, not realizing there were 46 pages of fellow smuggers doing the same in more organized fashion on this thread... sorry about that!

    I'm having the same symptoms Gary described about the button being unclickable. Here are my details:

    Doing this both at home (wireless cable connection) and at work (something really fast and not wireless). Both machines running Win XP, though the work computer is quite a bit older. I've read some people posting about "Visitor View" but I haven't found that yet - where is that? Anyway, I create my own VV by using Firefox logged in and IE7 logged out so I can see both views. Therefore not sure if the following issues have to do with browser or logged in/out:

    IE7/logged out - nothing happens when I click the slideshow button. No green or black square, no click noise... nothing. But mouse pointer turns into a hand on hover, so it seems to know there is a link there.

    FF/logged in - button works fine.

    Direct link to FFSSSS - if I cut and paste the link in either browser, also loads and works fine.

    HOWEVER. When it does load (ff/logged in/cut and paste link) it seems to get stuck before finishing the slideshow and thumbs do not load - just black emptiness after the thumb of the last successfully diplayed image.

    Direct FFSSSS link: http://loribrueseke.smugmug.com/phot...AlbumKey=SkMvo

    Gallery link:
    http://loribrueseke.smugmug.com/gall...kMvo#264526177

    Haven't tried other galleries. Was trying to send this one to a client, so naturally I am obsessing over that one.

    Other feedback:
    Can I add music? Does it have to be fullscreen --? there's a flaw when your screensaver kicks in. I kinda like it in a browser window.

    Great job guys! I don't envy your jobs right now. Thanks for the tireless effort!<img src="https://us.v-cdn.net/6029383/emoji/clap.gif&quot; border="0" alt="" >

    My button is now clickable in IE.
    Sometimes the first image is a small thumb.
    The first time through, not all the images came up in the thumb scroller, but I scrolled through again and then they all showed.
    A little slow/draggy, but I am also on an old computer, looking in a gallery with 298 photos, with music playing during the slideshow. What can I say, I like to press my luck. :D

    </td> </tr> </tbody></table>

    Quote:

    Ok, caveat. Sent the FFSSS link to my coworker's computer and she got the black screen in FF. Tried it in IE and it says she doesn't have a current enough version of Flash (she has v.9?), and since she does not have administrative privileges, cannot update.

    Unfortunately, if we are to be sending our slideshows to clients and/or allowing public viewing, we cannot stipulate that they have a specific version of Flash or IE or FF or whatever, so imho getting the slideshows compatible with multiple versions of software is important.

    But, I think we're on the right track! Keep it up. :-)

    Will post my stats in the next post.

    Stats:

    1. for FF: Win 9,0,115,0. Debug = no
    For IE: Win 9,0,45,0. Debug = yes

    2. FF 2.0.0.12, IE 7.0.5730.11, Win XP

    3. gallery: http://loribrueseke.smugmug.com/gallery/4494537_SkMvo#264526177

    4. Yes

    5. Yes

    These are my stats here at home on my laptop. Per my previous posts, other computers are getting different results with the same gallery. I do not have stats on those computers. My work computer is pretty old but has been upgraded to run XP. My coworker's computer is less than 6 mos old. I know that's not very specific, but I would figure a newer computer probably has newer versions of software.

    Not sure if this is related to new slideshow or not...
    Hi Andy,

    My first time posting here, and first time doing any smugmug work for quite a while, so I may be in the wrong thread. But here goes...

    My problem is not that I can't get the slideshow - but that my galleries default to slideshow - no matter what I set it to. I thought it was something to do with my settings, but then noticed it only happens with one browser. Firefox has the problem, but Safari doesn't. Since I've been away a while, I don't know if this is connected to the recent new slideshow features that Smugmug released. Full screen slideshow works in both browsers.

    Here's my stats...
    Flash: MAC 9,0,115,0 for both browsers

    Browsers: Firefox:2.0.0.13, Safari: 3.1 (5525.13) both on OS.X 10.5

    Example Gallery: http://rounsley.smugmug.com/gallery/215150_ZiGLw/1/8294871_v6sF9

    I can use both your slideshow links just fine, although the Share link URL only gives a full window slideshow - not a full screen one.

    I had previously used quite a bit of customization for a homepage slideshow, but deleted most of it. I dont think I left anything I shouldn't have, but I could easily be wrong on that!

    Any suggestions?

    thanks

    Steve

    Do external links have to be enabled for a given gallery in order for the FSSS to work correctly?

    Are the FSSS settings tied into the settings used in the Bio section of our account?

    Well, based on our emails this morning I tested everything, including deleting all customization. Finally I turned on external links for the galleries as I had just run out of options.

    That is the only thing that enabled the FSSS in Firefox when not logged in to my account.

    Any ideas why?

    The slideshow was working for a while, although it was next to impossible to get out of it and go back to the Smugmug mode. Now the slideshow doesn't work at all. I see the slideshow screen, but no photos ever appear.

    Requested information:

    1) WIN 9,0,115,0
    Debug Player: No

    2) Firefox 2.0.0.13 on WIN XP

    I don't know what I did, but now everything seems to be working fine. I can even get back to the Smugmug mode easily. I must be living right.

    Flash: WIN 9,0,115,0
    Firefox: 2.0.0.13
    OS: Windows XP SP2

    The slideshow does not run on my homepage (www.bena2.smugmug.com) or as a FSSS in the gallery used by the homepage slideshow, here: http://BenA2.smugmug.com/gallery/1316843_257jV/1/122946895_CJqmQ
    The homepage slideshow loads the flash image, then the first slide, but the freezes up. Clearing the cache, then reloading gets only a blank slide.

    It also does not work on either of the links you posted. All I get is the "Hit Escape" message, then a black screen.

    I do not have any customization code that modifies breadcrumbs. However, I did have the javascript slideshow code for my homepage before the switch to flash. So, maybe I failed to delete something.

    Thanks for your help.

    For reference see here.

    Andy, we're making progress. I did as you requested. Cleared the cache [again :D] and tried my gallery. Didn't work. Black screen only. Tried your first suggested gallery. It didn't work either. Black screen only. Tried the 3rd (this one: http://cmac.smugmug.com/photos/swfpo...AlbumKey=f3ta9 ) and what do you know?! It worked! I hope this helps track down the problem.

    There don't seem to be any posts from Opera users here, so I've registered to add it to the list:

    I'm getting a blank screen with no pictures (just the "Press esc to exit" for a start, then nothing)

    1. Win 9,0,115,0. Debug = no

    2. Opera 9.26, Windows XP

    3. gallery: http://emandstu.smugmug.com/gallery/4564417_EDeTM/1/268997627_i5iDZ

    4. No

    5. Kind of, but not in full screen mode - the slideshow works in the browser window

    That's a real shame. I really like smugmug but I have little enthusiasm for using a different browser just to access one particular feature. Smugmug generally works perfectly well in Opera (aside from a minor issue with the buttons that was easily fixed using a custom CSS), and even the slideshow works fine if I use the direct link to it (from the "share" page) and hit F11 to make it full screen. It's only when I access it from the slideshow button in the gallery that it doesn't work. (That's a point - why does the Slideshow button in the gallery behave differently to the link in the share page?)

    I suppose I'll have to wait and see if Opera 9.5 fixes the problem.

    I can't even FIND a slideshow button in any of my galleries?

    :confused

    Same behavior in FF (on Vista and Ubuntu) and IE7 under Vista

    Current Flash is reported as Win 9.0.115.0.

    tpt.smugmug

    Yes, I can run the linked slideshows. (And I'm still really impressed with that opening portrait!)

    My BIO slideshow works fine and it is NOT the old code.

    Am I missing something?

    You have it turned off with this CSS:
    /* removes the full-screen slideshow buttons */
    .play_slideshow {
    display: none;
    }

    You can either remove it or just change the display: none; to display: block;

    I noticed that the largest size photo in your galleries (based on the couple of non-protected galleries that I looked at) is Large. If you really want the full-screen effect, you may want to consider bumping that up, even to XL.

    Yeah, it's because you put this in your CSS:

    /* removes the full-screen slideshow buttons */
    .play_slideshow {
    display: none;
    }

    remove it, and you'll be fine :)

    If you right click and save, what gets save is a file called spacer.gif, not your photo. It's essentially an empty file. Your photos are still protected.

    Go ahead and save one, then look at the file.

    I'll jump into this as well.

    1 - Mac 9, 0, 115, 0
    Debug player (Player 6 and higher): No

    2 - Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; Intel Mac OS X; en-US; rv:1.8.1.13) Gecko/20080311 Firefox/2.0.0.13

    3 - Here's a link to a gallery:
    http://jackchinook.smugmug.com/gallery/3346520_9MXvg#186497354

    4 - No - the little pointy hand turns into a little text selector thingy sorta like this "}{" but narrower.

    5 - No - I get the "transferring data" message down on the bottom of the browser window, but nothing else happens and no status window displays on the lower right of the browser window.

    Thanks for any help!

    Ah, sorry, I misunderstood.

    I wonder if there is any way to disable the print button in flash.

    Of course, anyone can grab any image from the screen by doing an alt-Prnt Scrn and then pasting it in a program and printing it. That's a function enabled by the computer and the operating system, not under our control.

    Hi Rene, it's no different than using prt screen on the keyboard, or any sort of screen grabber software (or cmd-shift-4 on a Mac). Watermark your images if you want to protect further. You can also block sizes if you wish.
