CANADA

Welcome. An introduction to this thread can be found here.

If you live in Canada we'd love to see a bit of your town in this thread.

If you are uncertain of what to post here's a suggestion: Choose a commercial center of your village, town or city. Be it a financial district, "downtown" area or other type of market center.

We will finesse these forums as we go depending on the level of posts and participation. But most importantly let's have fun doing this!

Start your post with a title containing a) PROVINCE and b) CITY, TOWN or VILLAGE where you live.

example: MANITOBA; WINNIPEG

Then insert your photo and add a few lines of descriptive text to tell us about the image and your life in that location.

Lovely in the Autumn

Sarnia, ON is by the shore of lake Huron. This bridge connects Sarnia to Port Huron, MI. Once across the border, you are 50 miles from Detroit.

Wabamun, Alberta

One hour west of Edmonton. Locally, known for its coal-fired electrical generating stations, coal mining, and recreational lakes.

Wabamun (for a small village) also has an excellent fireworks display that the local firemen and women put on in June.

The countryside is beautiful mixed woods/aspen parkland

It can also be a bit chilly in the winter, brrrr

Thanks for looking.

Ontario; Toronto (Cabbagetown)

I live in a neighbourhood in Toronto called Cabbagetown. It is so close to the downtown that I could walk there in 20 minutes. Cabbagetown is known for its large collection of brick Victorian architecture.

Cabbagetown got its name from the Irish immigrants that moved here when the neighbourhood fell on hard times. "Cabbagetown" was considered a slur. Now that the neighbourhood has been gentrified, residents fly flags that sport a cabbage.

Before the Toronto Zoo moved out to Scarborough, it was located in Riverdale Park - just 2 blocks from my house. The old zoo grounds now host Riverdale Farm that has horses, pigs, cows, geese and other farm animals for us city folk to gawk at.

Well done Moni. Nice to meet! Gabbagetown is one of my favourite places. (I'm a 'Beacher')!

Have you considered doing a "My Toronto is Riverdale Farm" flic to for CTV News?

Ontario, AJAX

Ajax in Winter White : The first week of February 08 and two major snow storms have whacked us back to back in as many days. A short meander about the perimeter of my neighbourhood in the storms aftermath provides for a few photographic opportunities, despite the passing nasty weather. All of these images were taken within a very short distance from my home in South Ajax, Ontario, Canada.

Squamish is north of Vancouver, about half way to Whistler up the Sea to Sky highway.

The downtown isn't particularly noteworthy, but the surroundings more than make up for it

Oh yes, we have geese:

New Brunswick, Smiths Creek

Smiths Creek is a booming metropolis of a few hundred hardy souls: a suburb of Sussex, NB, the dairy capital of the province. We are located in Kings County, renowned for its plethora of ancient covered bridges that attract tourists from around the globe. New Brunswick's slogan is "the picture province" - and it is!

Throughout my life I've moved and lived in a lot of places - huge cities (London, England) and tiny hamlets. But NB is home and I've finally returned here to stay!

Southern New Brunswick is beautiful. Aside from the numerous ancient covered ("Kissing") bridges, we have some excellent rivers. The bridge in the photo was built in 1908 and spans the Kennebecasis River beside my farm. the upside of riverside property is its beauty. The downside is the annual spring flooding (worst in 35 years this year). We also are entertained by passersby canoeing down stream (which generally horrify my horse!).

We're also a fishing site for a family of Bald Eagles and home to numerous Mallard and Wood ducks and Canada Geese.

A mere 35 minute drive from the world renowed Bay of Fundy, the photographic opportunities are endless. The tiny fishing village of St. Martins provides continuous opportunities to document the rise and fall of the highest tides in the world.

You can't beat New Brunswick for diversity! Drop in sometime.

Lobster Sandwich anyone . . . ?

Multi-colored crates brimming with lobsters await shipment to places all over the world. They float in a pound adjacent to Marine Atlantic's passenger ferry Joseph and Clara Smallwood soon departing for Newfoundland.

We've been voted top Island destination in the U.S. and Canada by Travel & Leisure magazine. Perhaps this is part of that choice . . .

Some posts from our trip to Lake Superior Provincial Park this spring. Many of these were taken while fishing for steelhead. I hope to plan a photography-only trip this fall to Superior as it was tough to focus on photography this trip:
