I can't get the galleries link in the nav bar to link to the galleries page?

You're trying to link to Galleries.

Unless you have a category named Galleries you'll just return to your
homepage.

I think what you're looking for is the duplicate homepage galleries hack. Take
look here and an scroll down to "the Galleries Page I, II, III & IV' SECTIONS.
