Friends I made in Glacier NP (high pixel content warning)

Here are just a few of the friends that I made while in Glacier National Park for Shootout '07.

Comments and suggestions are always welcome.

Coyote on the stalk. I would have to say that she became my closest friend because I shot with her for three consecutive days.

207194618-O.jpg

Black bear sow and her two cubs. Boy is it hard to get all three of them looking at the same time. I tried to get a couple of DGrinners to go up and talk to them to get them to look my way, but no luck.

207194539-O.jpg

Small mule deer buck - small maybe, but he was travelling with two does.

207194714-O.jpg

...and they did have one mule deer fawn with them.

207194762-O.jpg

Of course there is always the goats, but I would have to call them distant friends. A few DGrinners got lucky and caught a few of them when they came down to earth, but I wasn't one of the lucky ones. :(:

207194828-O.jpg

One grouse in the tree is worth two in the bush.

207194881-O.jpg

...and here is his mate who decided to stay on the ground.

207194933-O.jpg

...I was able to get up close and personal with his mate. :wink

207194995-L.jpg

I also ran into a few whitetail deer. This doe took a moment out of her busy day to pose for me.

207195120-L.jpg

...and here is the best find of all. This is Nikolai, the wild one-eyed shutterbug, introduced to the wilds of Glacier NP from Russia by Smugmug.

207194672-O.jpg

I hope you enjoyed them.

Thanks and feeling is mutual. I really did enjoy meeting everyone and have already signed up for next year's shootout and looking forward to seeing all the returnees as well as meeting the newbies.

Thank you, Mike. Regretfully, a couple of us got the coyote in trouble. We didn't do anything wrong, but an idiot ranger couldn't stand us getting photos of the coyote and threw rocks at her to chase her off. I reported the ranger prior to leaving on Sunday morning.

Excellent as usual Dixie. Those bears were hard to shoot. They were pretty close but still, I'm not ecstatic about anything I got from them. I like the natural background of your buddy the coyote also.

Thanks, Nick. I had to shoot and go through a bunch of them to find a couple of acceptable ones.

The coyote picked the location, I just pushed the button.

How many photographers does it take to change a light bulb? 50. One to change the bulb, and forty-nine to say, "I could have done that better!"

Thanks, Harry. I have some to post in the near future from Merritt Island NWR. I also went to Viera Wetlands, but the road was closed because of heavy rains. I was in the area Oct 30-Nov 5. If the Viera road hadn't been closed, I would have given you a call to let you know that I was there. I checked on both Nov 1 and Nov 4, but it was closed both days.

Thanks, Dave. Good friend of the coyote, but those goats must have thought I smelled because they weren't even good distant acquaintances.
