Installment #1. Night shoot at Many Glacier

All these pictures were taken on 9/26/2007 around 9pm, i.e. way after the sunset.
Almost all (if not all) are 30 sec exposures.
Taken with Canon 40D + EF-S 17-55/2.8 IS USM or EF-S 10-22 USM, Magfiber tripod and Acratech V2 Ultimate ballhead.
Lightpainting for Canada Del Oro and smuggies with Cyclop's Thor Colossus 18 mln candlepower light.

This is actually my first frame animation, at least during the last 5-7 years.
Anymation was done with PS CS3 Exteneded. I probably was very tired since it took me about 2 hours to figure out what do I need to do. Of course now I'd do it all in 5-10 minutes :-)
I'm very sorry about that, but it seemed like a fun idea at a time
What was yours? Technically it would be better with lander one, but my 30D L-bracket blocked the access to my 40D remote socket, so I couldn't use the cable, so I cranked ISO to 800 and used 30 sec.

It's just a long exposure and a (somewhat powerful) flashlight, really :-)

Boy, I do love the Moab area and I've never been to Arches, which is obviously to die for photographically...
I have to check with my significant other since we usually spend October in Paris. I'm not complaining, but Moab..... Arches ..... Canyonlands ...
I hated missing this year. I actually sent in my deposit then had to cancel last Spring because of other committments. (I just hung my first month long solo show. :ivar) But I think that 2008 should be another dGrin/SmugMug year for me, don't you?
Meanwhile, keep those photos coming. I am so enjoying the Glacier experience vicariously! Thank you and every one else who was there for posting and sharing.

Installment #2: Sunday Sunrise
Saturday morning was raining and miserable, we didn't even go out (although yours truly was stupid enough to wake his bunkbuddy - Nick - at 5:45 am without bothering to check the weather first :bash)
Anyway, Sunday morning was questionable, yet few of use decided to give it a chance.
The first sound I heard after I woke up was the wind howling. I mean, WIND HOWLING
And what do you know: our pros managed to find a perfect spot, with no wind at all, and a great view to the Big Chief mountain.

Nah, this one was easy. Last year 6 of us did a worldwind tour around Lake Powel. Waking up at 3-4 am, going to bed around midnight - and that for a whole week after the primary shootout, which also included some early sunrisez and late star shooting... Now that was something :-)
Most of these pictures (except #1) are, despite of their shape, rather large 5-7 frame pano shots, blended in CS3.

Now that it's beena couple of weeks I can afford to miss these views because the wind isn't ripping thruogh my layers and numbing my hands. I think your sunrises from Sunday morning are by far my favorite. The colors were unforgettable in person and you've caught them perfectly on camera. The sunrise/moonset at Many Glacier looks a bit contrasty to me right now but I know it was not nearly as bright or dramatic as they were on Sandy Ridge.

Yes, I agree, Sunday Sunrise was nothing but spectacular. But hey, man's gotta eat:-), so I thought boosting a few things here and there wouldn't hurt, especially for those who didn't see them IRL..
I enjoy the barbed wire image from Sunday morning, especially since Gus and I jumped it to get to the top of the hill, I went right over a photo
