I'm way lagged in processing :rolleyes

What a great trip. I loved seeing everyone! It's amazing to see the repeaters' skill level improvement over the years. And it was really cool to meet all the new folks as well.

All shots with Canon 5D and Canon 24mm Tilt-Shift

Amtrak leaving East Glacier (coincidentally, the very same train Greenpea, Mike and Devbobo were on!)

Love the color in the waterfalls, or, not! The color one is a single frame, the BW is 4 shots, left-right/top-bottom and then a fairly aggressive vertical crop.

Fire remnants. Went with a selenium tone look.

A small stream, on the way back to the airport in Kalispell on the last day, shot about an hour before my flight :lol3 4 shot pano, vertical orientation.

I've got a bunch more to get processed, but sadly work and family are interfering :lol3 Ah well, back to reality :wave

Very nice Andy. I love the color punch in the waterfall pics. The train pic is definitely a wall hanger. Very nice.

It was nice meeting you and the whole gang in Glacier. I've already told work that I want off next year too.

I can't wait to see more once you have them PPed and uploaded. (PS, I'm working on google maps for the locations. Lots of clicking and dragging involved. :he) Do you happen to remember the name of the trail that the falls you posted were on?

I've been looking forward to seeing your train photo(s).

I kept meaning to try and go down to East Glacier (or East of that) and get my own train photo pics, but never managed to get my act together in time. Thanks for posting this one!

I really like this one. I tried really hard (unsuccessfully) to try and capture the size of the area devistated by the forest fire, but all of my pictures (even panos) justed didn't seem to capture it. I think this picture starts to do it.

Color in the Falls
Andy,

I really like your black and whites, but wanted to ask if you did anything special with the color on the St. Mary Falls shot. It may have been time of day for me, but I don't remember the same contrast in my shot from the same place. Can you say whether you did you do anything selective on the water, or would that be "telling?"

Normal stuff, just setting the black & white point in curves. That's it.

Nice pics Andy

We were told by one of the locals in East Glacier following the shootout that the color this year was the BEST in many years. Your last shot shows that well. I just transfered all 60 gigs from my portable to my office server, hope to begin the edit soon.

How difficult is it to earn to use the tilt/shift lens? Is the learning curve steep?

I'll volunteer my experiences because I recently stepped up to the TS plate and noticed that not a lot of other shooters that I have been around have done so. (yet?)

I've never used a TS lens before this year and had a heck of a time getting used to the unique features of it. While doing research about the lens seems straightforward enough, I was completely confused when I actually had it in my hands and tried to integrate theory and practice in the field.

I didn't get much from it when I tried using it for architectural purposes.

I used it again on the shootout and found I had a newer problem than just the wonky light metering and OOF sides: building a composition (something that Marc touts) is a little trickier than it sounds. I'm still not convinced I did well, but like traditional panos, two-shot vertical panos are a lot more fun to look at when you make them yourself.

Not sure that helps, but there it is. I have 4 or 5 TS panos in my Glacier gallery, and it's definitely a lens I will take with me any time I plan on doing landscapes. I'm not sure I'm in love with it as much as Andy is, but I don't think that's possible anyway.

That said I'd love to see you get your hands on one of these, Tom. Your landscapes are already breathtaking.
