PhotoPerfect

I stumbled on this application, and couldn't find it already posted, so I thought I'd ask about it. PhotoPerfect. It's an automated color correction app.

Here's a picture of me that my son took with my 20D.

What do you all think? An alternative to i2e for non-windows users? I'm pretty sure there's a lot less control with this than i2e.

I'm going back to their site to nose around some more....

No. I'm going to do whatever it takes to not install Windows.

Heh. Well, I'm not stupid. Meaning, I'm not going to add another OS to support if I don't have to. Ok, cautious, maybe is a better word.

OK, so they also have an app named PhotoRetouch, which offers automated correction with some control. I didn't use the controls, just applied the defaults.

For comparisons sake(Hope you don't mind) I downloaded the files and ran them through i2e, here are the results(Including your results)...

It seems to me that PhotoPerfect seems to create somewhat harsh results...

PhotoRetouch looks like it gave similar results to i2e. PhotoPerfect does batches easily. I haven't had enough time with PhotoRetouch to see how it handles batches.

Either way, they're both handy little apps, at around $40 and $60.

Does it sharpen? Looks to me that the i2e has more sharpening applied by default.

i2e has whatever amount of sharpening you'd like to have

PhotoPerfect seems a lot more yellow as opposed to i2e (or i2e less yellow), but maybe you can set that somewhere?

I sure would like to know that the most experienced man on this board (when it comes to making color right, anyway!) thinks of the results. Acceptable? Good? Very good? Meh? What?

My initial thoughts were that I prefer i2e results, but that I really did not like either one that much when I saw them this morning on my LCD at home. I did not have time to peruse some of the numbers for skin tones etc, nor did I have time to see a print for evaluation. Both seem to want to set the average tonality too high, and PhotPerfect in particular seems to want to drive the skin tones too hot, too near maximum. I actually did not think the first shot of you need much, but a little more pop in the mid-tones.

You say you do not want to risk/run Windows. How about the ability to run Windows apps in OS X itself, without Windows? I wonder if i2e will run in CodeWeaver's CrossoverMac

I have only a very few Win programs that I would like to run, one might be i2E, another is Microsoft's Street and Trips ( I know about Route 66 for Macs, but it is simply outclassed), and finally Garmin's updaters - I still can't get the beta Mac version to fly on my machines.

Good luck with Crossover. I can't get anything to work with it. Let me know if you have better luck.

Given the amount of work put into PhotoPerfect's output, I love it. Easy as pie. Not what I would do, and not the best the image can be, but in my un-scientific survey of non-photographers, they all picked it as the best. They like the vibrancy and contrast, etc. It's pop for the consumer. I like being able to churn that out without thinking. Great for family snaps, for instance.

Looks pretty good - if you have to run a Mac app, sure, use it.

i2e has more controls, more options, is faster, and can do RAW files. And at the bargain price that we've gotten, we'll it's hard to beat

I think that PhotoPerfect did a good job.

The killer is they have a program with more controls: PhotoRetouch. But there's no batch processing.

Anyway, I'm not loading Windows yet!

I may be easy to please, but I'm really happy with PhotoPerfect so far. Sure, it's not perfect, but it does a darn good job, and it's easy peasy. I like that.
