That explains why I found a 1ds MkII in my vegetable patch, wow I knew those things were tough, but re-entry, impressive!

Yeah, really! 17,000+ mph. That would leave a helluva dent in the camera.

Am I the only one who worries that we are really going to screw things up with all this trash that's in space? It seems that we understand so little about what's out there that for all we know with enough contamination it's all going to come crashing down.
I was reading Dean Rusk's memoir for a paper and it mentioned how in 1959 before doing a high altitude nuclear test the scientest were basically like "this might destroy the van allen belt but we dont think so" and then the blast created a new van allen belt so the scientest said "We grossly miscalculate, oh well" (obviously these aren't direct quotations). Just seems like we need to be more careful.
