    DMC's list
I'll add this link to DMC's "What do you Hope SmugMug is working on" thread. I'm sure it duplicates some of what Andy's already listed as well as what's in the other FR threads, but I like it as a nice synopsis of some of the more prevalent feature requests.

Just a thought! How about a smugmug directory listing for pro sites! I think that would help push sales, and make the sites more visible.

    Some Feature Suggestions
    - Ability to add comments to a Category, just like you can do to a Gallery. Ability to display an empty category. These two features together will allow you to create fully customized web pages with the simple URL of http://domain/category
    - Ability to print to MPIX (the best service out there, IMHO)
    - Ability to specify to what gallery an emailed photo goes to
    - Solve problem where, in a password-protected web site, the link to a specific category or gallery does not take you to that categoy or gallery after the user enters the site password. Instead, the user is taken to the home page.
    - Make WebDAV bi-directional

    Thanks!

    Gallery Stats
To add to the "Beef up the stats page..." it would be nice to have the gallery links currently available on the stats page go directly into the gallery stats.

Thanks guys and keep up the great work! thumb.gif

    "Virtual Galleries and/or smart albums"
I'm hoping that this request is to help owners create new galleries based on stuff that has already been uploaded? I have a few favorite subjects / photo-types which I'm repeatedly taking pictures of on my travels... It would be really handy to say create a virtual gallery called "Sunsets", and then assign multiple pictures from multiple galleries to this new virtual gallery... The only way to do this at the moment, requires re-uploading all the sunset pics into a new gallery... So yeah, this is a bit like shortcuts / aliases on PCs and MACs...

    Better bulk gallery management
I guess it depends on how organised you are / want to be... But the more I use the site, the more i want to standardise the galleries, move them around, set passwords, descriptions, etc... The point is this: The bulk setting for "customising" the galleries is a nice feature, BUT I'd rather choose which features get applied to the galleries I select... For example, I want to password protect a whole bunch of galleries without losing all the description and keyword settings for each individual gallery... Or perhaps I'd like to turn the "clean" display setting ON for all the galleries, but don't want to lose any of the other specific settings per gallery like passwords, descriptions, etc...

    Category descriptions
Like perrotta, I'd like to be able to add a description at the category level... I know this should be self explanetory, but I think it'd really help to diversify the way people use the site, giving them more flexibility...

Personally, I turn hide the gallery browsing, and add my own HTML code / links to the galleries in the BIO section on the home page... Yes, I'm a STANDARD user!

That's about all I can think of for now... I'm often wishing that things could be more flexible so I'll start posting requests here as I encounter them!

    Here's another one:

    Chopping up the support forums...

...help docs / wiki / etc into Standard, Power and Pro, it'll save everybody a lot of time and frustration when searching for support if they don't have to sift through stuff which isn't relevant to them!

Two items that would really be appreciated:

    1. Calendars.
Would really like to be able to order a 12 month calendar using photos from my site.

    2. Stats.
Would really like to be able to sort or have sorted the galleries in the stats listing. I can have one gallery with 27 hits show up before one with 1800 hits. It would be nice to be able to sort by number of hits, amount of bandwidth. Most large images, most original.

    Thanks for considering.

I'd like to see a "display crop" much like the ability to zoom thumbnails. Instead of cropping down in photoshop and potentially limiting the viability of different print sizes, you could "crop" it on smugmug. This non-destructive "crop" would only exist in that it shows you a zoomed in portion photo, like a tight 2x3 crop, the non cropped file would still exist when added to the cart so someone could get an 8x10 off the original size file.

This functionality can sort of be replicated with proof-delay, you can upload 2x3 files and then replace them with 8x10s later, but proof-delay has plenty of flaws. Since I *want* the file to display at 2x3, if I proof delay and replace with an 8x10, I then have to re-replace it with the 2x3 so it displays properly (and re-zoom the thumbnail) and then RE-replace it with an 8x10 if a customer wants another one, a significant hassle. Alternatively I could just upload a non-cropped file in the first place, but that would prevent me from displaying the image the way I want people to view it.

Password protecting / hiding individual images in a gallery
You can currently password protect whole galleries, but not individual files... At the moment I have to move these images out of the gallery into a separate hidden one... So not ideal when you've got loads galleries already! Someone else mentioned the opposite of this problem, but it's basically the same thing - He / she wants to upload ALL thier photos to smugmug, but only display certain photos publicly...

Hmmm... I guess... How about amending the strapline to each forum's description... Something along the lines of:

    SmugMug Support
    Problems? Suggestions?

    SmugMug Pro Sales Support
Show Me The Money! (Pro Users Only)

    SmugMug Customization
Be different or be damned. (Power and Pro Users Only)

Sure... I'm using the default too by the way... Perhaps you should check the calibration on your monitor? I'm on a pretty decent Apple 20" Cinema Display though, so perhaps I can see a lot more contrast in shades than you...

    Filtering via portrait / landscape...
I think it'd be another usefull addition to the filtering tools... So you could browse via keyword... Plus turn on either "Portrait" or "Landscape" only to further whittle down... I think there are uses for this...

Customizing Gallery Categories and Subcategories - recategorizing
I would LOVE a way to BULK change the gallery categories and subcategories.

I recently changed all my categories per year. It took me all night, because I had to go in one by one and change each category for each gallery. Very time consuming.

If we had a bulk tool, it could be literally done in minutes. Am I missing something because I'm pretty sure there isn't one?

My friend at beaverhausen.smugmug.com also recently changed his category and subcategory settings. He has put on his homepage a note about it (he shouldn't have to do this):

Welcome to the home of my 40,000+ photographs I've taken over the past 4 years. I recently recategorized this site. I am now placing all galleries which I have done for an assignment in the "Professional" category. All others will go under "Personal Work". I still have to move the 220+ Louisvillemojo.com galleries underneath the appropriate subcategories. These represent a large group of what I've worked on for the past 2 1/2 years. Note: there are some Louisvillemojo.com galleries under some of the other categories as well.

    Category Password
I would love to be able to password protect an entire Category - and then all galleries assigned to this category would be accessible when entering the password one time. I believe the only way to do it now is to password each individual gallery within the category. If there is a way to password a Sharegroup - I'm not aware of it.
Learning a little more every day.

Andy, do you know if there is any way of changing the date on a bunch of photos? I know it's probably not a usual thing to do, but I have a bunch of photos which were taken on someone else's camera - but they hadn't set the date, so they're totally wrong... They're my photos, I was just borrowing their camera... For that reason alone the date function becomes a bit muddied and useless to me personally (at this stage in my life!)... I sort all my galleries by date anyway "YYYY.MM.DD : Gallery Title" so it's not a huge issue...

Just thought of another feature request... Relentless I know!

Bulk keywording from within a KEYWORD gallery
There have been a number of times where I've mispelt a keyword a couple times, or decided that I'd like to use a different word for the keword chosen originally - because my idea of photos living with that keyword has slowly morphed into something else as I've gone through and tagged them... It would really help in whipping the keywords into shape... Immensly...

Already there. Just go to "photo tools" from within the gallery, select "Edit captions/keywords (Bulk)" and there you go. You can replace, add, delete, yadda yadda.

I said "within a KEYWORD gallery"... You currently have a drop down menu called "tools:" with two options "Edit this Caption/Keyword" and "Edit Captions/Keywords (Bulk)"... But the latter takes you to the "Bulk Captioning" page of the gallery of the currently selected photo... Not to a "Bulk Captioning" page based on the images in the KEYWORD gallery I'm on... Obviously the images in the KEYWORD gallery are from different galleries... So to change them all, you'd have to spend considerable time, based on how well you know your photos / how well you've tagged them etc...
