Squatters
Folks build houses wherever they can get away with and squatters are an important part of the mechanism for transferring land from unused government and private ownership into open use. There are both corupt sides and egalitarian sides to the actions of the squatters mostly depending on who is paying them or motivating them.

Squatters settled on my father's mango plantation in the Philippines. After we realized they had been there for quite a while, my family offered them the job of taking care of the land and they've been taking care of it ever since. So, yes, there are definitely lessons to be learned. Thanks for sharing!
