Dear Andy,
Thank you for such a generous offer.I very much love your sites, you gave as examples, and would love to have one like that for my own.
I would rather do it myself, and learn (if at all possible, lol). I know,
you must think, im crazy, turning dow this offer. I would love to know, step by step, on how to accomplish something like that. I find the faqs a little
difficult to follow sometimes,because they are more for answering questions, not a step by step guide on how to accomplish a certain look for your site. If you are willing to guide me trough step by step in accomplishing this, i would be more then greatfull.

Thanks bigwebguy!

Elle, give me a little while, I'm going to dig into your site and do some basics, then come back with a list of TODOs for you.

Here in this thread is where you'll ask all your questions. If we need to move posts or questions, we'll do it.

Ready? Let's GO!

Good.

OK First assignment:

All of these galleries: http://tanyadelnegrofoto.smugmug.com/Photography

You need to continue the CSS that I started for the first two galleries (I did it for "blog" and "prices":

/* suppress the "no photos" message in info galleries */

.gallery_1379358 .nophotos {display: none;}
.gallery_1379319 .nophotos {display: none;}

so just copy and paste one of these lines, and change the gallery number to the number of the gallery not yet done (about, session, news, contact).

I've put a page title in for you already, look at the top of your browser window.

I like the new header So, you're sticking with white background, yes? That's cool..

I, and the other helpers (mike, bwg, ivar, barb, and plenty of others ... ) will try to help you along!

First assignment, A+

1): Make a custom category, call it Site Files, and put all those info galleries into that category.

http://www.smugmug.com/help/upload-photo

2):

Font colors - you want the blue theme? Or??
Box backgrounds - that grey? Or??

3): Force the style to "Journal" and then put a photo and some text in the caption of that photo in your About gallery.

I'm trying to follow along with you guys, I think the idea is great. I created the galley, but how do I hide it?

Hi Ram -
Don't "hide" but just make it "private" in gallery customization. OK?

OK so faster than an hour

bravo on the title colors and the background colors - you did that yourself! Good onya, girlie

In your "About" gallery, that's serving ONE purpose and will ONLY have one photo. So, I want you to put this in your css:

/* kills page navigation */
.gallery_1379344 .albumNav {display: none;}

and of course, you can duplicate as needed, for other one page galleries, in the future. Just a tid-bit, to tidy up the page, yeah?

Soooo now for an advanced TRICK. That about photo of you DOES NOT need to be clicked on, no reason. So, let's learn to suppress the clickablility of a journal photo. It's in my FAQ http://www.dgrin.com/showthread.php?t=26043 number 57:

http://www.dgrin.com/showpost.php?p=209813&postcount=12

I want you to follow those instructions EXACTLY and make it happen for gallery number 1379344.

Next, go into the gallery customization and turn PhotoRank OFF for About and also for your other "info" galleries (the ones in the site files category).

Finally, for this assignment, let's do a navbar. Yup. You'll do it yourself, by following this tutorial:
http://css.maxdesign.com.au/listutor...troduction.htm

which is linked in this thread (sticky):
http://www.dgrin.com/showthread.php?t=20742

Navbars are easy. Think about the organization a bit: You'll have "Home" and "About" and "Galleries" and then maybe "Prices" "Info" "Links" etc... up to you completely. Doesn't matter much to start with, just pick your poison and do the tute - we can adjust later. Paste ALL the output (HTML and CSS) from the tute in a reply to this thread.

get to work!

Ellepixels,

http://www.colorschemer.com/colorpix_info.php

In case you didn't stumble upon this little program in your reading it's great for getting colors to use for your page. I thought of it because the green you've got looks like a shade in your header apple... this program will let you easily find the code to ANY shade in that apple.

-Rich

(ah yes, and the site is coming along very nicely :) )

you are fast! And, you have a 4 year old in tow? OK OK OK nice work.

Next up - how about a homepage slideshow? We can lose EVERYTHING on the homepage, all your work is available via the navbar now. You can see an example on my site www.moonriverphotography.com.

If YES, then make a new gallery, in "site files" cat, and call it "Home Page Slideshow" and upload into that gallery all the files you want to use. The show is random, so don't worry about ordering the gallery.

If NO, then ... we'll go straight to he INFO pages, which will be HTML Galleries. But the SS would look REALLY nice, IMO
