Poor skinny horse,
usually horse photos look best with longer focal lenghts you wont get the BIG head syndrom, Unless of course you are going for the wide angle look. some look a bit oversharpened, this place will have you shooting great stuff in no time.

thanks for the comments peoples.
greatly appreciated. nice point of the thirds rule for the horse shot - didnt even enter my head when i shot it.... whats a longer focal shot??/ and how would i accomplish it (before gasping at my ignorance, remeber my noobness) |

Focal length is the mm on the lens. If you're shooting with the 17-85, for instance, those are your focal lengths, except on the Rebel, you need to multiply the focal length by 1.6, since the sensor is smaller than the standard (35mm frame). It's all math. You wanna be shooting horses at 100mm+. The wider angles (shorter focal lengths) distort horses, make them look odd. It kinda works on those close-ups, but horse experts shoot longer focal lengths. |
