Tutorials

Ever find yourself wondering just how someone managed to create an image using different effects?

Here are three simple tutorials we hope will encourage you to try something new.

The Hot Seat

A lifelong interest in landscape photography has led Eyal Oren to make a study of his adopted hometown of Marblehead, MA. As you can see, his dedication is paying off!

Africa!

Dgrinners Harryb, Pathfinder, and others joined Andy Williams and Marc Muench on Safari in East Africa recently. Here are some awesome threads to check out!

San Diego Skyline at Night
Taken around mid-september 2004, while schmoozin' my wife at Ferry Landing (Coronado).

Oh, anyone with shots of Hotel Del Coronado (especially at night, from the bridge, with Christmas-season fireworks), bring it on!!!

Did you crop this out from the original file? its very apparent.

I say give it a little tilt and clean up the noise.

I love photos of lights at night!

That's what I get for not bringing my tripod.

Now if I had remembered to check my resolution settings, I wouldn't have ended up using 2MP (instead of 5) and, as I said to someone else, NOT having a tripod didn't help any.

There's a rail on that landing. Balance the camera on that

Even if all you are able to do is brace against something, that's still better
than nothing.

SDO is a pretty place from Coronado. Especially right around dusk. I had the
wonderful opportunity of living just up from where your shot was taken.

Were you visiting San Diego or do you live around there? That makes a difference. If you live nearby you can always shoot again. If it was just a visit, you had to do the best with what you had at hand. It's a beautiful place to visit and your picture will be something to remind you of a good time. Just straighten the water line and make the buildings vertical and you'll have a nice momory.

If you get the chance to take night shots again try to take them a little earlier so you get some light in the sky. I took some of San Francisco on a visit without a tripod. I used a trash can and the dock railing for stability.

You can see some of my night shots here
