Huh banner question
Hi all, first post, and yes, i did read the FAQ and search but there's a ton of information and I may be trying to do the impossible so thought I'd ask first:

I have a banner that is a gif file that includes transparency. I would like the banner to "sit on top of" the theme color without a border. Sounds OK, but what I get is a rectangle with my logo inside of it (the transparancy reads as solid white). I've temporarily created a white theme to hide the problem but I'm hoping that there is a way to do what I originally envisioned.

Thanks for any info!

use the -O version of your file. It stays as -O.gif Same link as your -L version, just replace -L.jpg with -O.gif

HI and welcome to Dgrin!

thanks for the reply...that sounds like it should work, but it really does get converted to a jpg file when it's uploaded, so it doesn't work. Odd, as smugmug says they support gif files.

sorry, as I said, that sounds great, but it simply doesn't work to use -O gif.

I'll try creating a PNG file and see if I can get that to work.

Thanks!

followup:

still not working. Either the gif file is being changed to a different file format, or it is losing its transparency somewhere in the upload or storage processes. The file is visable, but it has lost one of its properties. I'll keep playing with it.

Have you a link to the file in question on your smugmug site?

EDIT: Is this one it? http://nikwax.smugmug.com/photos/55268503-O.gif

yes

another data point: if I download that file and look it it locally, it behaves as it does on smugmug, that is, it has no transparency.

What is your process for saving the file? Have you made other transparent gif's in the past?

it's really a transparent gif...I can take the file and drop it into a web document and it behaves properly.

What do you mean drop it into a web document? Can you go through the steps you went through to create it for me?

if I create a web page with a color background, and add the gif to the page, then I see the transparency that I expect to see.

I could send you the file if you want to look at it.
