new canon ef-s lenses
i was really hoping that the 17-85 ef-s i.s. lens from canon would be a winner. sadly, from the early reports on dpreview, this lens seems to exhibit some serious c.a.

ironically, i may end up re-buying the canon 28-135 ef i.s. i regret selling it to erik - doctorit

i'm also about 99% decided to sell my 70-200L f/2.8 i.s. *again* (it's the second one i've owned!)

Why? Are you going to replace it, or just dump it?

it's one of the finest lenses canon makes. i just don't use the long range so much. i'm more of a wide shooter.

My longest lens is 75mm. I've been tossing around the idea of a zoom 70-200 or so. I love the sigma or nikon f/2.8 model, but I can't justify the cost if I only use it once a month or even less. I'm still looking for a medium priced zoom that will be good enough quality I won't leave it at home, and not so expensive the girlfriend makes me sleep on the couch.

some updated samples on the 17-85 ef-s lens
well, i was disappointed looking at some of the posts on the dpreview canon lens forum about the 17-85 and purple fringing. then, a friend pointed out this japanese site, where there are some really encouraging samples...

here are a few that i was pleased with:

Oh I forgot to say "OOOOoooffff!!!"

Sorry, but I'm still getting used to the sticker shock of this hobby. It looks like I'm going to have to drum up more consulting contracts to keep up.

Check out the 70-200L f4. It doesn't have the IS, the weight or the price tag of the 2.8

Is that a surprising lack of noise I see at ISO 3200? :-O
