Bird ID please
This is a new visitor to our neck of the woods. Anyone know what it is? Just a quick grab shot for ID purposes.

It's an IBIS of some sorts. Perhaps a "white" ibis, "white faced" ibis or maybe a "glossy" ibis.
...or a juvy of some sort (ala Jeff)http://www.birds.cornell.edu/program...hite_Ibis.html http://www.birds.cornell.edu/program...aced_Ibis.html http://www.birds.cornell.edu/program...ossy_Ibis.html Last edited by Osprey Whisperer; Jan-02-2006 at 01:43 PM. |

It looks to be a juvi White Ibis. The young juvi Ibis is dark with a bit of white on the leading edge of the wings. Their bill is dark in color
Around the begining of december white feathers begin to appear on their back and the bill gets lighter until it starts to turn orange/red. |

Thanks for the help guys. I agree that the Juvinile White Ibis is the best bet. It's amazing how different the young ones can look. Interestingly, he was hanging out with a Great White Heron. I did see some White Ibis around here the other day for the first time. Thanks again.
