In the organizer view it would be most convenient to have the option to show filenames, captions, or both under the thumbnails. This would help with manual sorting. Perhaps radio buttons in the toolbar?

Oh no. I can't believe they did that AGAIN. There were already several tools in the Legacy site that needed some kind of ID, which I'd asked about implementing. They seem to frequently assume that people can recognize every photo on their site by a little thumb. And now the main organizer tool doesn't even have it? This will drive me mad. I have thousands of photos that have been edited or sharpened or whatever that are hidden because I still need an un-edited version for some purpose. They can't be distinguished from their originals except by caption and/or filename (Both would be very handy). Here's a question: do they at least enlarge when you hover? That would help ID some, but certainly not all.

No, they don't enlarge when you hover. In fact, they fade a bit.

I don't have thousands of photos with different versions, but I do have: continuous-drive shots of little-leaguers batting and pitching which make no sense if they are out of order; travelogues; music festivals where the captions say things like "next up was ...."

What a huge bummer. Gosh, they even enlarged on hover in a lot of the tools we already had in the Old SmugMug. .. why lose that??! It was so VERY handy.

    Photo details in organiser
It would be great if just by selecting a photo in the organiser it would show you (maybe at the bottom of the screen) the details - eg filename, title, caption, keywords, maybe some other meta data

I'm having a bit of a hard time with titles and captions at the moment

I've just added captions and I now seem to have no titles (uploaded from Lightroom)

In the smugmug lightbox it displays a short title (and the longer caption when you rollover it) - not sure where this title has come from though - when i go to edit the title is blank. Is it taking it from the filename? (which happen to be the same as my titles in Lightroom)

It's all a bit of a mystery to me

You provided very good comprehensive info in this thread as far as what the issues are surrounding captions, titles, & filenames: http://dgrin.com/showthread.php?t=239112 I hope they get this sorted out soon... it's a bit of a mess. But anyway, are you saying that in the Organizer it only shows the thumb? I pray not... that's completely useless! Yes, the filename, caption, title, etc. should all be there, and / or in a hover-over. Most of the tools in Legacy even had that. A few tools didn't, & I had asked a few times if they could remedy that & make the same info. available in all tools.

You have to select a photo, go to the edit menu, choose 'captions and keywords' where it takes you to another screen altogether where you can see filenames and edit captions and keywords - but no titles!

Incidentally, when you are not in organise mode, and go to the lightbox you can click on the edit icon, choose edit photo details and there you get title, caption and keywords

Consistency please Smugmug! and a quick view of these details in the organiser on select or hover over

+1 Having photo details (including taken date) available from the organizer view when selecting a photo would be great. As it stands, the organizer is very slick and looks nice but it doesn't provide enough information when you need to sort through a huge stack of incoming images.

    does duhhh count as +1
Hahaha! Double duhhh plus 1000. But we need both-- filenames & captions... and large pop-out image on hover (like in Legacy Smug) would improve it by 100-fold.

And while improving the organizer, I'd love to see buttons to quickly arrange selected photos/galleries... like "start" and "end." One tool i never used in legacy was the drag and drop arrange tool. It was just so much harder to use than the regular arrange tool that let me select the photos I wanted to move and with one click send them to the beginning or end. Of course they had to model the organizer after the hard to use tool because it looks prettier.

Smugmug designers, please try dragging a photo from the end of a large gallery to the beginning. See why it sucks?

I actually used the legacy drag and drop tool. Worked great. This one, not so much!

Oh my gosh. I hated that. Hardly ever used drag & drop either, for that reason. And are you serious? They got rid of the "Start" & "End" button?? I used that constantly. Why did they even change these tools, when so much other stuff needed major work & they just overhauled the tools a few yrs. ago. It just rots.

Also, the arrow keys don't work for arranging photos. As I recall you could do that in legacy.

And it seems something weird is happening with titles. I have to update the field twice to get the title to stick! That's using the Smugmug mode, if that's any help!

I had a similar problem last night where I had to update keywords twice to get them to stick. Oddly, they looked correct at first, then disappeared... I was doing this in the single-photo update (the wrench under the photo in smugmug gallery style). I updated the keywords for photo #1 and saved. Saw the keywords appear under the photo. Updated the keywords for photo #2 and saved. Saw the keywords appear. Updated the keywords for photo #3 and saved...again, they keywords appeared. Clicked on the thumbnail for photo #1 and the keywords weren't there. I assumed this was the old bug where the keywords are really there but you can't see them in preview mode, so I opened up the edit box again, and they keywords were gone...

Sorting videos is almost impossible without filenames
I have digitized tons of videos from VHS and 8mm camcorders. The thumbnail is usually snow before the recording started, so is virtually worthless for sorting. So I'm faced with opening up the "I"nformation then trying to remember where the others are, an unending "Memory" game. I tried to make up some numbered captions and sort by caption, but that is also not easy or functional since one must keep looking back and forth to see if the caption sorting works as expected, which it didn't. The filename under the thumbnail would solve all of this.

Sadly, I'm stuck with galleries full of newly digitized videos that are super difficult, if not impossible, to sort.

    Help!

FEEDBACK area is useless right now. Limited number of issues you can vote on per person because you have a finite number of votes to use. Too many issues to be limiting our voting rights. Remove the voting limitation.
