Sigma 120-300 F/2.8 APO EX DG OS HSM
Not to be confused with the Sigma 120-300 F/2.8 DG OS HSM, the subject of this previous thread.
I decided the bells & whistles on the newer version weren't worth the 50% premium (to me . . . YMMV) and bought the older version. Just got it, and stuck it on the D7100. Here's a shot of a resolution target, with a 100% crop. I'ma keep it :clap:clap.
Turns out I didn't have the lens racked all way out to 300mm. It said 270, so sue me. Raw, ISO 800, f/4, 1/1600 sec. No sharpening, no CA corrections. Pretty much SOOC except WB & jpg conversion. I'll prolly do some more testing, but my first impression is quite positive. Seems to focus faster than my old Nikkor 300mm f/2.8 screw-drive.
EDIT: Gaak! How could I forget?? I also had the Sigma APO EX DG 1.4 t/c mounted, so you're actually looking at 380mm. I'm even impresseder.

An "accurate" reproduction of a scene and a good photograph are often two different things.
Tools, dammit! Not toys. I've worked very hard to convince my wife that lenses are necessary tools. Don't go mess that up, Dude.
