Photo Paper... What kind?
Well I just got a new toy at work today. The Canon i9900 Photo printer. Right now I have some old stock of HP Glossy photo paper. I know there is better paper than this out there. What kind of paper should I get? What your recommendations? What do you use?
Oh Yeah BTW the best $500.00 of someone elses money I have ever spent. I love this thing the quality of the photo even on the hp paper is amazing (but I know there is better paper). |

I just purchased the i9900. I am very impressed with the picture quality. I wonder if anyone has tried it with any "matte" type paper. All my printing so far is on the Canon paper which is glossy. Maybe I'll test it out with some other paper...

I would have to say the Canon Pro paper is the best with this printer after some testing. The Konica paper that they sell at Ritz is a close second but the Canon Pro is the best I have used to far.

The only reason, as I understand it, for the manufacturer's paper to be the best is the paper type settings in the software. Whe you select premium glossy photo paper as the paper type they are saying that the printer is designed to apply the right amount of ink to work the best with THEIR paper. the composition of another brand of paper may be slightly different and therefore the printer is not applying the right amount of ink for that paper. These just means you will have to experiment a bit with outher brands.
It is also true that not all makers make the same kinds of paper, and if they do, it may not be readily available in your area. I prefer Epson Paper for my Epson 1280 but I cannot buy it locally in sizes 11*17 or larger, I often use Kodak paper because I can find it. I hope this helps. |

Since I have a prehistoric Epson 880 Inkjet, I've personally fallen in love with Epson Photo Paper. But then again, I have Epson everything so don't pay attention to my rather biased opinion.
One thing I did want to recommend...I used to buy paper at various places. Once I ventured into Costco and found a 100 sheet pack of Epson Photo Paper for only $20. At nearby retailers, they were asking for $15 for only 20 sheets. You may want to check nearby "wholesale" clubs like Sam's Club, Costco, BJ's, etc to see if you can find a deal.
