Printer update
I thought I would post an update with first impressions on a new thread.

Printer is finally in the studio, inks are loaded, print test was successfully run, and I have begun the paper / printer testing. I want to be a little more scientific about my paper choices. A 44" roll of paper is a lot more $$ than a 17" wide roll.

I was informed the big printers are finicky about loading and printing on sheet paper, but I have found while you do have to be careful about paper alignment it will accept 8.5 X 11 paper and print with a minimum of fuss. Although it feels like your feeding a small dog treat to an elephant.

The new Lucia EX inks are a brand new formulation designed for the XX300 series PROGRAF printers and is not backward compatible with earlier printers. The new ink increases color gamut by 20%, produces deeper blacks, smooths out tonal transitions and is physically more durable with less gloss differential.

I was not prepared for the improved detail this printer produces over my beloved ipf5000.
Color looks accurate and fantastic right out of the box as well.

I think I am going to love this printer.

Sam, I think I still have an unframed copy of a favorite shot of mine (moonrise in Sedona) that was made by Bay Photo. Any interest in printing a copy at your place to compare? Maybe I'll start using you as my new printing service.

Sure, give me a call. I am still in the process of paper / icc profile testing, and learning the intricacies of the printer.
