The Hot Seat

A lifelong interest in landscape photography has led Eyal Oren to make a study of his adopted hometown of Marblehead, MA. As you can see, his dedication is paying off!

Large hoverfly Volucella zonaria
During a rare spell of sunshine on Sunday morning, I found a Volucella zonaria male hoverfly doing territorial flights from a small tree in the garden. Managed several times to get it to land on my fingers after a flight (last 3 shots).

First 2 shots strong natural light, others full flash- mix of MPE-65 and Tamron 90 shots.

Thanks for the comments Phil and Ian :)

Ian you'd know if you had seen one - they are very large (18 to 20mm long)
