Sales from SmugMug
Hello, I am new to smugmug--I was just wondering--do people actually make sales of outputs from their sites? Seems like a million photographers on the web offer it, but I don't know a single one who has actually sold an image. Thanks!

It really all depends on your business model. If you just build a site, publish decent photos and hope people stumble across it and buy, no you won't sell. For event, sports and wedding work, web sales are often a secondary revenue stream. For many photographers though, the web site is more about generating clients for paid work rather than a sales channel. Let's face it: when you hear about a business, many people immediately look to the web to see the on-line presence of the business. Lots of opinions are formed based upon the web site of a company.

But, if you're a hobbyist and you're hoping to generate $10,000 a year from people buying prints from your website - find another idea.

I do have some online sales, but the main thing my site is used for is advertisement as a place to show my work.
