    Had to smile when I saw this post as I also noticed the duck reference in S+Pj.
    The smile broadened when I saw the mandarin pic, since only last week I managed to see and get some pics of one (also male) that I'd been told about in a local venue I frequent.

    As a lone male (afaik) it appears to have *taken a shine* to a female mallard ... which then raised the question about whether a union between same was possible ... its chance of success ... and (especially from a photo pov) what the result would look like.

    A quick google shows that there's no chance of success.

    I then imagined a scenario where the mandarin had been informed of this ... and considered that the circumstance of it being informed ... + its 'expression' would probably have been worthy of a thread in S+Pj ... if said scene had been well captured.

    All very fanciful, I know, with lashings of anthropomorphism thown in for good measure ...probably down to me spending way too much time with such subjects :)
