The air is cooler and drier now, and allows better imaging of the moon than we get here in the midwest in the summer time. 1DMkll 300mm + 2x TC

Nice one. This morning, the lunar eclipse was visible around 0500 PDT.

Cool, stable, dry air helps a lot. :):

I wish I had known about the eclipse - Maybe someone has a good shot of it.

PF, I see a face in a crater on the upper left side of your moon! Looks like the greaper I see all the time, the racoon.

Skippy - I missed your question - sorry- sometimes I think the little yellow light bulb that is supposed to indicate unread posts does not always work right - anyway I missed your post and didn't see it until Ginger posted later.

This was shot with a tripod of course. Actually a Gitzo 1328 plus an Arca-Swiss head and a Wimberley Sidekick, in the dark shadow of my house away from the street light. I didn't use mirror lock up, but I should have. Other than the tripod and the excellence of Canon's optics, I think the biggest factor was the cool, quiet, dry air. Glad you liked the shot.

Ginger - thank you for your kind comments and revitalizing this thread to call Skippy's post to my attention.
