Post your best picture from your HS Football this year with horrible lighting conditions. No flash allowed!! I was on the 10 yard line shooting towards the opposing sideline in the worst corner light wise on the field.. The light pole had 4 of 16 out and it was cloudy about 9 pm. My settings on my 7D are 5000iso 1/640 and 2.8.. Canon 7D hand held with a 70-200 2.8 Canon..

This is a straight JPEG image export from LR3 of the original RAW image so you see how bad it is..

Hey Kikoprice, you're in my 'hood (SD). My football pictures aren't so awesome, but then I don't get the luxury of 1/640 at our field.
    Nikon D700, ISO5000 1/250, 300mm, f2.8 hand held, no flash (I don't like flash either).

Hey Anna, 1/250, hand held 300 2.8? You are a rock, great job on panning to keep the motion blur to a minimum. Your making everyone else too embarrased to participate lol. I shoot the east county section, hopefully we can shoot game together sometime.

Yes I have, been on here for a while, actually tried it for a game a while back. Not my type of shooting, I see a bunch of folks that it works for and they make great pictures.

I shot this last night and thought it came out great with the sky in the background,it was a celebration after a touchdown. I have shot with and without a flash mounted low on my mono and there is plus and minuses on both. Please feel free on telling me what you think. This is without a flash.

Comments are slow aren't they? Great Jube shot Scott. The lighting was great, looks like (I know you didn't) you used flash. A stop or so below ambient, a couple of off camera flashes on each side, up high to isolate them. Good eye.

the shots look great for no flash, you keep that falloff to dark at least at bay. the last show ..( gotta love white uniforms) is really cool. the above light seems to almost make them glow.

Great shots John, is your Sigma 120-300 2.8 the newest version? One more question what were your ISO/shutter speed?

It's the non OS version, and I think ss was around 1/640 or 1/800 at 12800.

    John,

How many yards away from you were these plays?

I can only guess, but the first one I think was around midfield and I was probably on the 30 yd line. The second one was a TD run shot from the endzone.
