I have been using the Huey Pro to calibrate my monitor and it works well, however, I have recently noticed that I can't tell the subtle differences in the shadows that I should. If I look at the image below I can just barley make out the 3 white circles but I can only see two of the 3 black circles. When I adjust the gamma, brightness, or contrast so I can see the 3 black circles It then blows out the highlights and I can not make out the differences in the 3 white circles. The way I have it set now I can make out the difference between Y and Z on the bar (just ever so slightly) but I can not make out the difference between A and B. Does anyone know what I could do about this? I am using Windows 7 and a Samsung Synchmaster PX2370 LED monitor also I have it calibrated using the Huey Pro calibrator.

There isn’t much in the huey software that’s going to allow you to control this. Its not the best instrument out there by a long shot. To really evaluate shadow detail, you need to ensure the test image is tagged with the display profile so you are not invoking any kind of Display Using Monitor Compensation inside a color managed app. I’d do the testing in Photoshop as described here: http://www.ppmag.com/reviews/200412_rodneycm.pdf
