Anyone doing flickr-style sidebar badges?
I desperately need the ability to generate various sidebar thumbnails (or Tinys, actually) for various subcategories or galleries.
Is anyone doing anything like this now? Anyone doing it with RSS? |

That'll get you a customizable feed output that is easy to input on your page.

You know, anyone who is REALLY following the trends would put podcasts on their smugmug site.
Just saying.

That's interesting..
But not really what I need at all. I need to take the actual photos from Smugmug and display them in the sidebar. Feeddigest takes headlines and descriptions and formats them for you.
Anyone? |

I've had a tough time with this actually. A while back I tried to find an rss to javascript tool that would put the images in the output. I couldn't find one. Maybe there are new ones now. Try googling rss to javascript or something like that.

OK, resolved
This is what we ended up doing:
http://wwwv4.oc.edu/academics/default.aspx It's just two large thumbs stacked in top of each other, pulled at random from one gallery, to which we're constantly adding pictures. Works well! I need to tighten it up, but I'm very pleased with the effect. |

![]() I was thinking about that just yesterday. I can't underline, I can't make it yellow or white...sigh all my emphasis items are going to be big, red, italics, and bold from now on!

Sharing the Code
The code is VB.NET so I doubt it will be terribly useful if you're not running IIS, but it's free for the taking for anyone that wants it. If you still want it, I'll zip it up and post a link.
Oh, and I'm looking into doing the same thing in PHP for my own site, so when I do, I'll post back here. |
