Northern Pintail in sweet light
took advantage of some rare Seattle sunshine this afternoon and stopped off at Juanita Bay Park in Kirkland. this used to be one of my favorite haunts, but since i moved out of Kirkland, i don't get there very often anymore. it was cold, and there wasn't much in the way of critters, but just as i was about to leave, i spotted this lone pintail in the midst of a gaggle of mallards, coots and teals. he swam close along the shoreline, and gave me this nice photo op... i knew pintails occasionally visit there, but this was the first one i've seen. 40D, 100-400 @ 190mm, 1/100 @ f/5.6 with fill flash...

Beautiful! The light is truly stunning! I like the idea of using a fill flash---yet it doesn't look as if you did! It almost looks like HDR (impossible with a swimming duck), but however you did it, it looks fantastic. Nicely done! LOVE the texture and reflections of the water as well---really adds interest!

Excellent shot, Rocky! The Pintail is my favorite duck so I smiled when I saw the title. Great light and the water is perfect.
