Hi All,

I'm using smugmug to archive my photos and to share them with our family and friends. I created a "backup" category and have been uploading the photos into password protected galleries of that category.

When I wanted to share the photos from the backup pool, I found out I can't share directly because they are password protected. So, I created a separate gallery to post some photos from backup. I can't figure out how to copy multiple photos at once, like the way you can move group of photos. Right now, if I want to share 20 photos from the backup pool, I have to copy photos 20 times individually in the backup location and then move them to another gallery. Is there a way to link photos instead of copying?
Does anyone use smugmug in a similar way? Am I doing this the hard way?

Maybe my previous post was not clear.

I'd like to know if there is a way to make batch copies of photos. Can I select multiple photos and make duplicates with one click?

I searched the forum and came up empty handed. Any help or insight will be appreciated!

call me crazy, but i'm pretty sure since smugmug already offers unlimited storage of photos, that ways to exploit it in the manner you describe probably go counter to the business model that they've set up

I think I know what you are trying to do Simon. I wanted to do something similar and here is what I ended up doing...

All of my photos are in private galleries set up like this:

2004 > June > Sarah's Birthday Party

Then using Photoshop Bridge or another program that allows you to rank photos (or you can do this manually), find the photos on your harddrive which you want to share publiclly and create public galleries for those photos on smugmug.

To help viewers of my site, and to help orgainze my photos at home, I have applied keywords which are embedded in the photos through metadata. These keywords will only work on your public galleries and make it easy for google, yahoo, and smugmug to search for your pictures.

So to answer your question about mass coping of private photos into public galleries....I just wouldn't do it.

Depending on how many pictures you're talking about, I would just do the upload process twice (hopefully a lot less pictures in your public galleries than your private) For example, I have about 60 pictures which are duplicates - ie. they show up in my private and public galleries.

Thank you so much for your reply. I use PS Elements 3, which I think should be able to do what you describe. The only problem I have now is that my galleries are not public (I only have private and password-protected). I mainly use smugmug for family and friends-only sharing.

Maybe I misunderstood your comment, but it sounds like an attack in the line of "Why would you do something like that?" or "Why are you taking advantage of the unlimited storage that way?"

I subsribe to smugmug (standard account) mainly because it offers this unlimited storage. Just as important is that my family/friends can download the original. I'm a beginner in photograpy and in online photo sharing. So far, I don't have any photos that people would want to buy. That is not my purpose for the online sharing. So, I'm not sure why you think I'm "exploiting" what smugmug offers. I didn't say I wanted to copy the entire archive to other galleries. Just a handful to share.

If you don't mind, could you please share with me how you would setup the categories/galleries to achieve what I've described earlier?
