Windows Vista Color Matching
MS has apparently partnered with Canon to build in color matching to the new OS.

Here's the article [zdnet.com]

No real gory details in that article... they'll probably come after the official announcement is made.

Do we really need this, or is this Microsoft inventing something just to have their name on it?

From my understanding, the OS from Microsoft will be enabled to read Canon's RAW files - that means they will be easier to see and read in various OS apps perhaps?
