Once again the globular springtails (Dicyrtomina saundersi) are starting to appear despite the cold and the wet, which they seem to enjoy! The old rotting bird table that has been one of my stable studios in the garden remains attractive to bugs and flies and such, as shown by the shot here. I reckon I will resist all temptation to ever get rid of that decaying wood...

The springtail is about 1mm in size at the most, 2mm maximum. So you can imagine how difficult it is to get them in focus. Used all 3 extension tubes on the Sigma 105 for the shots, and the marumi ring flash to bring out the colours.

On the second one, you can see the gossamer strings of a spider web.
