Broken photo links from SmugMug to Blog
My smugmug is:
www.photodiction.com

and my blog is at:
http://photodiction.blogspot.com

The problem:

I have a 'blogs' album section in my Smugmug that is NOT public (i.e. doesn't show up on my homepage) but it is linkable.

When I do a blog post, I go to the photo in the blog album that I want to link to, click the photo, and then click on the 'share' button where I get the embedable link for a blog post - I choose 'large".

Then, following something that I read in dgrin 'somewhere' [wish I could remember which thread], I change the last part for sizing.

For example, I get a link like:

Quote:
<a href="http://www.photodiction.com/BlogPhot...218_CkMSh-A-LB" title="Tapestry"><img src="http://www.photodiction.com/photos/9...18_CkMSh-L.jpg" title="Tapestry" alt="Tapestry"></a>
then I take that last part ".../998412218_CkMsh-L.jpg " and change the "-L" to the size I want so it looks something like : ".../998412218_CkMsh-700x550.jpg "

Anyway - all was working for a long time. A friend emailed me yesterday that a number of the links were broken and that some of the photos weren't showing up. I checked the links and they were all as I had input them. I copied them again, and made the same changes as before, pasted it into my Blog edit window, and still - no photo.

Yet, if I copied the link exactly as the 'share' button gave me, it worked - but with a slightly larger photo than I wanted. But at least it showed up.

So, I went through all the postings - back to Novemeber 09 - for all the posts that showed a broken link, and changed the links to exactly what I get when selecting the photo in my Smugmug album and getting the embedable blog link.

And that works .

BUT - I still have some photos that have the sizing change coded (i.e. swap the '-L' for a size like 700x550) and they STILL work?!

I hope I've explained this clearly and that someone can:
  • let me know what's changed and how it might effect my blog linking to the photos
  • how come I can't use the method described to size photos to a specific size
  • why some are working with the sizing switch and some don't work with it
  • whether all the ones that I might still have linked with the sizing switch are going to 'break' in the future
Thanks in advance,
Mario

I want to help. Please link me directly to a post on your blog with a broken link? I see images in your blog posts, like this one

I had fixed them all as described.... but I went to one just now and changed the "-L" to a sizing amount "700x600" and it is now broken. the link is at

http://photodiction.blogspot.com/200...-dressing.html

and yet, the most current entry has the sizing changed too, but it shows the photo??

Hi Mario, your domain is not setup right. We reached out several times over a year ago about changes with domains - here's more info http://www.dgrin.com/showthread.php?t=141333 if you set your custom domain to domain.smugmug.com I bet the custom image size problem will be fixed. Please write our Support Heroes if we can help you with this, we have domain specialists on staff!

OK _ I will check that link and go over setting up my domain properly. This is the first time that I have encountered any problems, and it seems odd that the change took place last year and the problem with my sizing seems to have just cropped up recently.

Oh well -
I will read the info and make the changes and let you know if there is still a problem or not.

thanks for the VERY immediate and timely help. You guys are the best!
Mario
