my eldest, home for the holiday weekend from college. he's just enrolled in the navy rotc program, as a pilot and now four-year student. since my father (now 78) he's the first to wear a uniform. pretty darn proud of him :D

Awesome light, bokeh, composition-- not a bad looking kid either.

    Memorable shot.

this is a kid, who one week ago, couldn't shine his shoes or iron a shirt if is life absolutely depended on it. now, the first thing he did when he got home (after removing his hat as he crossed the threshhold), was to ask me, "dad - you got any black shoe polish - a lot of black shoe polish?" and "where's your iron?" "dad, you're iron stinks!!!!!! get a new one!"

Your sailor looks pretty squared away, Andy, especially for the first week! I remember those days, well. And fondly. You can tell him that, from the perspective of an old, retired carrier pilot, joining the Navy was the smartest move I ever made. Good on him...and you! clap.gifclap.gif

Ditto the above comments; good pic and obviously a great son.
    enjoy (your kids) photography,
that says more than ... well, it says a lot.

    (reflective pause)

question: did they make his nametag off-centered or did you remove his first initial/name? I only ask because it catches my eye.

    thanks so much, steven :D

there's a blank space next to his name, becuase when he passes his first hurdle in the program, they'll give him an insignia to put there next to his name. he also gets rank insignia for his lapels at that time.

I still find it hard to iron a shirt & not put the pleats down the front..it gets in deep under your skin.

Congratulations - any chances of you going up with him - has to be a wealth of aerial photography in the offing without breaking too many rules.

    Andy,

It does appear you have a lot to work with there but...nice shot all the same! Great story too! My nephew is a helicopter pilot in the Air Force but the closest my son comes to operating a lethal weapon is when he plays his bagpipes.....
    Thanks for sharing.

Very nice Andy! I'll remember this off axis imagery and give it a try some time.

He is going to break some girl's heart too.
