Shot at an old rink last night, dim light, but pretty even. No strobes on this one, just AP mode +1.0 EV or so, auto ISO, ADL normal.

ISO ranged from 3000-6400 on D700 1/500 minimum

    Another nice series!

What happened to the skate in #6? Looks gray rather than black.

Tim from Troy, I've viewed alot of your work and I admire it. I shoot with a D200, in mostly dim lit
areanas, [Port Huron] and finally had an opportunity to shoot at a well lit arena [Plymouth] and
shoot from the bench. I shoot with no flash/strobe,and with manual focus lenses from the film days.
I have learned I can tweak better results from shooting RAW. The biggesst problem I have is the grain
I get on the pants and dark jersey's. One other problem, as I notice in your pics , is it better to align
the uprights of the glass vertically, or , align the horizon line of the net or board rail ?

Thru the glass on these Tim, or from a bench vantage point?

Todd, I've been in Glacier Pointe, I would not venture to shoot in there without the new D3s and plenty of strobes...

D200 is not a very good hi ISO camera, limited to maybe ISO 1000 at best. What you can do is make sure you nail the exposure and WB, and I've gotten acceptable pics with the D200 at ISO 2000 and Noise Ninja. Not gonna blow them up big, but 4x6 is 'not bad'

I always align the pipes on the goal vertically or another key if possible.

Tim, thanks for taking time to respond and help. Don't know if you've been to glacier point lately, but wow
does the lighting ever suck! There are blue, white, orange, pink, and yellow casts from their lights, and of
course a few burned out. I use an Expodisc to calibrate WB at the net.Anything away from that, it's a crap shoot. No control over that though. Speaking of control, I was recently approached by a Vendor at
a weekend tournament and accussed me of taking money out of his pocket by shooting my own Sons
team, and continued to say he wasn't going to shoot any of the home team because of me. I pay ALOT of
money to have my son play travel hockey, explained that to him,and questioned him -how many keepers do you think I get with MF lens,no flash and high ISO setting ? After the game, parents were telling me
he was taking pictures of me taking pictures. As far as I'm concerned,if he doesn't take the time and effort to take pictures as he intended for sales after the game, it's his loss- can't sell what you don't have!Ever had that happen to you?

    here's your guy!

    http://www.keactionpix.com/

I have had several run ins with him, I would not mind so much except he's not very good, he's rude and he doesn't bother to get and use the right equipment.

Standing on a ladder, with one strobe bounced off ceiling in one corner of an arena is a recipe for poor pics...

I was at Glacier Pointe in October...

here is one I took thru the glass from last year's encounter just to show everyone how bad this arena is: ISO 3200 1/500 and pushed 1.25 stops in post....

    Tim,

Next time he touches you, explain to him that he's just committed battery and see how his tone changes when you offer to call the police lol3.gif

OK. That was a bit of a joke. But seriously, I can understand his concern but you addressed it by putting your stuff away so I don't get what his problem is? He sure seems anti-customer oriented too. And with his exclusivity and obviously high sales, you'd think he'd buy a second flash :D
