Customizations Done
I think I'm about done with my site. If any of you have any suggestions or comments concerning the site I'd appreciate hearing them. Once I'm confident that it's done, I'll distribute the link to my family, friends, acquaintances, etc...
Thanks, http://www.darrenallenguy.com |

Hi Darren, I looked at virtually all of your shots and you clearly do have the eye. I would love to see some (most) of your work done more subject selectively. The woman with her eye in her mirror (a la Cartier Breson) would be wonderful if the background was more out-of-focus (just one tiny example). I can see what you're after and you're almost there.
I hope this helps you, I'm attaching a url to Breeson's work (1908-2004) which is not dissimilar to your thinking. But better. -than all of us :) http://www.bing.com/images/search?q=...FORM=IGRE#x0y0 |

Thanks Charles. I appreciate you taking the time to check out my images. I take it that since you looked at most of the images, that you didn't find the site hard to navigate? Also, thanks for the mention of Bresson in the same post as my work. I know I'm a ways off from his stuff, but even being remotely compared to his photography is an honor. I like the link to his work.
I love street photography even though I don't like classifying it that way. Capturing our times, especially on an "older" medium of B&W film, is such an enjoyable experience. Limiting my post-processing also creates more of a challenge - albeit a good one. If anyone else has any suggestions as to how I might improve my site I'd be more than interested. Then again, maybe it's good as it is? |

After great feedback and a few more weeks of work and help from the wonderful Dgrinners here, Amy's Busy Bee Arts, www.busybeearts.com is ready for review. Since without feedback there is no path to improvement, please take a look and provide any comments/critiques.
Thanks in advance. |

Your about page implies that you are available for work - I assume in the areas where you have sample galleries - but your site doesn't include any way to contact you. In addition, your about page seems to be a mix of "hire me as your photographer" and "here are my hobbies / interests". Those two areas really don't go together. Either focus on yourself as a professional photographer or treat the site as a personal sharing site. If I was looking to hire a photographer and I read your about page I would look elsewhere. --- Denise

You might rethink the colors you are using. The yellowish color you are using for your text is somewhat difficult to read against a white background, and the bright green highlight on hover for the background of your side navbar entries doesn't play well with the other colors on your site. On your homepage, I find the black background for your slideshow on top of a white page background to be too much of a jump in color. Leave the background light, or provide a real frame for your photos, not a black background. You haven't replaced the stock photo on your contact page. Add a bio photo and that will replace the photo that is currently there. See http://help.smugmug.com/customer/portal/articles/93316. --- Denise

On your contact page you have included your email address in clear text. That's a sure way to attract spambots. I'd recommend either using a contact form or using the method shown in the first post of the thread Stop Junkmail/Spam!!! If I click a photo to open lightbox, some of the text on the screen is not readable. The problem areas are the photo number in the gallery (1 of 24, etc.), and "Show details". It looks like you have black text against a black background. Using a thumbnail gallery for "Gallery" does not show your photos well. You might consider switching to another gallery style (either smugmug or journal). --- Denise

Thanks, J.

Here's my humble little site. Thanks to Allen for answering the ongoing coding questions. I'm most likely going to change the logo as there is another person out there who has the .com domain. I'd like to get a custom domain, but I'm going to have to get creative now.
Thanks for looking.......

The only thing that looks weird to me is when I click on your Galleries link. Are you using a frame or something? I'm getting a scroll down bar inside another scroll down bar and a scroll bar to scroll right cause its to wide...if that makes sense. Hopefully somebody else will look at this cause I'm only using a 15 inch monitor, so it might just be me. Doug |
