One loving couple, one dream, one amazing organ donor, a thousand miracles (4lbs 8oz)

My wife and I began on a quest to start our own family more than five years ago. This impossible journey derailed time and time again (with my wife’s kidney failure, serious medication side-effects, corrective surgeries, failed conception, failed pregnancies, the list goes on and on). Yet, each show-stopping setback was followed-up with new hope (an amazing living kidney donor, evolving medical technology, medical successes, and truly amazing people - everywhere) . Throughout this journey… I have been a loving and supportive husband, scribe, and bystander who has witnessed insurmountable obstacles fall like Dominoes. Through my wife, I have experienced joy in hope... being presented with possibility, direction, and opportunity. I have also experienced a nearly equal number of defeats… as hope was dashed by another seemingly un-navigable obstacle. This past five years has been an amazing, unlikely, and impossible ride. Yet… here I am today taking part in the realization of one dream – the dream of becoming a parent (fueled by determination, patience, resilience, as well as good fortune) in order to begin a new dream… the dream of being a parent.

This past Thursday (August, 06 2009) after there were no more obstacles to overcome… my wife and I were blessed with our first and only child… our baby daughter (delivered at 35 weeks).

Following are a few images documenting our daughters journey (so far):

This was a 3-D Ultrasound (taken around 20 something weeks):

As she did not go full term, she is taken to the NICU for observation:

Mom… is that really you?

The most precious gift… ever!

One or two things in isolation going right could be considered good luck. A thousand things going right, on-time, and in order… that is more than luck.

Nope, not familiar with Kaiser (there dont appear to be any affiliated offices near where I live).

I'm all choked up reading this and seeing your beautiful baby girl! iloveyou.giflustiloveyou.gifHuge congratulations to you all, and especially to your wife who sounds like a real trooper and a very determined lady. My daughter is such a gift and I only suffered a "complicated" pregnancy rather than what must have felt like an "impossible" one - enjoy every moment of that beautiful little girl!
