Does anyone know where I can get either a PS action or a tutorial that will let me give a Normal Rockwell-like effect to a photo?

Thanks.

    Thanks.

I looked at something similar recently (not Norman Rockwell specifically). And came across

as well as this plug-in from Topaz Labs http://www.topazlabs.com/simplify/

Not exactly what you're looking for, but it's a start.

Check out this guy's work too:http://www.davehillphoto.com

Very cool picts. I have no idea what he's using, but it looks close to the Lucis Arts plug-in: http://www.lucisart.com/lucis-art3-artist-gallery/lucis-art-3-gallery.htm

Thanks, Lukeo. I'd already found the first one and tried it. Didn't give me exactly what I wanted. :cry The Topaz Labs plug-in looks similar to an Action that I already have. Never occurred to me to try tweaking it to see if I can get what I want. mwink.gif

Dave Hill's site has the effect I'm looking to create. Thanks for sharing that. thumb.gif I'll have to check out that Lucis Art plug-in if my tweaking doesn't work out.

Yeah, I tried the first tutorial too, but it didn't look all that great. Keep us posted; the effect is very cool when it works.

By the way, you have great photos on your site. thumb.gif

I created a tweakable Dave Hill PS action based on this tutorial. I also stumbled across this action (load the video and skip to the Rockwell action part), though it isn't free.

Thanks Kerry/Art! I'd already seen the Mamma Shan site but was hoping to find something for free. ne_nau.gif Did find a number of tutorials for Dave Hill's technique, though. Looks like I need to just use those as a basis for what I'd like to teach myself to do.

Lukeo, from what I've learned, the key thing to do before applying the effect is to reduce the shadows in the picture. Dave Hill apparently does it through lighting, because he CAN. rolleyes1.gif But if you're like me, you'll need to tweak that in PS, PSE, or Lightroom.

Here are some links in addition to the ones that Kerry and Art have shared:

I started playing around with it last night and have some moderate success with a few interior shots I had taken. I've yet to find a happy medium with the High Pass filters, yet. But I do like the effect. mwink.gif
