Valparaiso wedding I second shot at.
Saturday was a first for me in a couple of ways. 1st, I drove to Valpo, by myself, 3 hrs away (kinda a big deal for me. lol) and 2nd second shooting for another photog out of Ft. Wayne. We had beautiful weather and wonderful locations for the bridal party. Also that church is crazy beautiful, but hot!! The other photog and I were soaking by the time the ceremony and pictures were finished.

Here are some random pics

fan was blowing camera right....she was getting very roasty so groom was helping to cool her. LOL Very funny candid

The photog had an off camera flash on camera right. In one shot that I got the groom moved allowing the flash to be seen, but it created this little burst. So, I asked the bride to look up at me and this is what I got

9
I would drive 3 hours just to shoot in Valparaiso. Seriously? This wall rocks!

This was in the beginning of the day, obviously. =)
I waited for this one shot. I really wanted it in my portfolio

Very well done...even the couple that are very under exposed...but you knew they were.....and the one with the "god" beams from the flash is great.....is the surrounding strangeness from post processing or the under exposure that gives it that mottled look....or maybe it is my eyes they were glued shut a minute ago...just woke up and had the pleasure of seing your work first......

the mottled look is probably from the texture.

Thanks for looking and commenting. After actually seeing her use the external flashes....that is my next investment...really cool stuff.

Hey Julie,
Some nice stuff here. I'll make a few comments for you.

You know that 1 needs to be straingtened but you didn't? Maybe you just noticed it needed it as you were posting.

2 would be better including the top of the stained glass. I know that is a tall order (yeah... pun intended) but you can easily do a stitch in photoshop. Best with a pod but you really don't need one at all as long as you leave plenty of space around your intended subject and overlap about 25+%. Super easy just clicking a couple of buttons in bridge and then croping into what you want.

4 is a guy fluffing his new wifes dress without the fan... should have shot wide and gotten the fan. Missed opertunity imo.

6 and 8 are soft focus. 6 looks like it may be motion blur, but 8 looks like missed focus. Either focus and recompose or use adjustable focus points. Those would be best with sharp focus on her eyes. With Depth of Field you get about 1/3rd in front of your focal point and 2/3 behind it so if you focus on the closer part of the subject you get a better chance of maintaining focus across your comp. Focal length and aperture are what define your dof, but that is how you manipulate it in simple terms. Both of these images are near misses IMO but otherwise well done.

5 and 10 are great shots and I agree that is a cool wall for a bridal party shot.

Matt

Julie,

You were in Valpo and didn't call me (or private message me)? For shame! lol

Anyhoo, on a more serious note...lovely shots in the chapel, I love getting to photograph in there. I used to work for VU actually (left them in January) but I still live in Valpo.

And yes, I know exactly where that wall is and it is very fun!

I was secretly looking out for you. ;)

I was quite surprised at how much like T.Haute Valparaiso was. I was thinking it would be more like Indianapolis. You have a lovely city there. I would love to go back.
