The Hot Seat

A lifelong interest in landscape photography has led Eyal Oren to make a study of his adopted hometown of Marblehead, MA. As you can see, his dedication is paying off!

my first jewish wedding
I had the privilege to attend an extremely fancy central park south wedding this past weekend. It also happened to be my first jewish wedding. It also happened to be my first attempt at doing some wedding shooting. It was crowded and dark, so i did my best. I really learned how to get the most out of my 580EX though, and many of the shots came out pretty cool. I still had to shoot at ISO 400, so with the 10D that equals a fair amount of noise, but at smaller sizes, they look good.

And I'd like to thank Winger for letting me use her sweet 24-70 L, it was most helpful, and happened to be what the pro photog was using as well... that is, when he wasn't shooting medium format. wow! He had a crazy setup. I've never seen anyone shoot so much medium format in my life!!!

A small sampling of my humble shots. Nothing amazing, but they definitely captured the fancy but fun mood (keep in mind, it was really dark, so I'm just proud of my flash work in that they are actually exposed enough to see while not totally burned out in any spot!):

(my favorite, cuz of the chandelier perspective)

Hey EriK these are really nice. I am curious since I have never been to a non-Jewish wedding, was it much different?

really nice Erik. Beautiful shots. I love the soft, warm light. Is this at The Plaza?

Would you share some EXIF?

Wow, considering the lighting restrictions, you did great. And this one's very flattering.

thanks for all the kind words! now, lemme answer a few questions/comments

4labs: it wasn't all that different, but I thought the traditions were a little more fun - the breaking of glass, breaking of bread, and the raising up the bride groom, and even brides parents up on chairs was a sight to see!

waxy: the flattering one is MrsIt

Sandy: thanks, but these are just for me. I'm sure the bride and groom will check them out eventually (they are both dear friends), but the "official" photos were done by a pro (I mentioned his setup above, but I'll say WOW again).

Angelo: Essex House. Exif info, eh. Here's a link to the gallery, you can check any extra camera info there: http://doctorit.smugmug.com/gallery/539318

Great shots Erik, that's the kind of wedding where you would have to use a knife AND a fork .
