I don't know about other parts of US/World, but here in SoCal communities are showing off their best Xmas decor despite all the crisis. Let's join in a merry spirit and capture the best decoration in your neighborhood.

As you can tell by number of posts, im pretty new at this.
I shot my neighbors lights this afternoon to get an idea of what i was looking for, then tried the same shot after dark. I kinda like the day shot better. Shots are, as taken. [Haven't done much with photo shop).

Its not outdoors because MA is still getting hit by a blizzard that started yesterday... a foot and still snowing
OK, let's treat this a test entry:-) We still need an outdoor one ;-)
BTW, blizzards make for great pictures

Got a new Lensbaby for Christmas and wanted to try it out!
Hello everybody, I thought I'd add my picture to the assignment this week. I'm fairly new to this site, I competed in a few of the competitions but sadly did not make it very far at all haha... ok... I call this manger lights... nice and simple. the original is fully in focus, but I felt like blurring out the people and focusing in the lights up top. tell me whatcha think.
1 - ISO400, 55mm, f/10, 1/200 sec
2 - ISO400, 180mm, f/6.3, 1/160sec.
3 - ISO100, 25mm, f/14, 15sec.

Photo location is the Quad Cities (Iowa) Childrens Hands-on Museum.
While it's not an outdoor lighting situation, it is a portrayal of one!
(outside temps these days were still in negative territory, too, though I would have liked to get out anyway!)
Info: D80 hand held, 26mm (of 18-200VR), 1/6s, F4, ISO800.
I'm looking forward to hainvg a lot of fun with these weeklies!

While not officially matching the task, very nicely done!
I'm guessing this assignment is over, but thought i'd go ahead and contribute my first shot (for this section), anyway. Kinda reminds me of my middle school book report assignments, always late!
christmas couple
The "National Christmas Tree" in Washington, DC.
Nikon D300 with Nikkor 24-70mm f2.8 zoom lens, set to f/22 for 13 sec at ISO 200.
I chose such a low ISO to try and keep noise to a minimum, and the tiny aperture to create the "star" effect on the lights, at the cost of a much softer image than I would have liked due to the long exposure. One good thing is that there were tons of people milling about - around the stationary couple in the foreground - which got blurred out completely, giving the shot a more intimate feeling. This outing was my first attempt at night photography and capturing lights, and based on the one or two usable shots I got (out of a hundred), I have a lot to learn!
Oh - also, there was a string of lights on the tree that had burned out, making a dark line down the middle, so I cloned out the bad spot in Photoshop to make it "perfect."

And never such thing as too late - as long as the picture is fresh, i.e. taken with the assignment in mind.
This was a snapshot to see how much exposure I was going to need. LOTS. It's kind of neat in a I had too much to drink kind of way.
