Focusing problem with Rebel XTI

I have 'perused' this forum but haven't posted before. I am happy with his camera, but now the AF isn't performing as it should. I take many hummingbird photos, and it will not focus as fast as it did before. I have cleaned the contacts and used different lenses. Any suggestions?

    How much slower would you say the camera is now?

    Have you been in many dusty environments when you change lenses?

    Are there any times when it does not seem to focus at all?

    How does it work on other subjects (not hummingbirds)?

    What is your focus technique? (Number of AF points, AF mode, etc.)

    Have you changed your shooting distance? Shooting closer?
