Utah Shootout 2008 - By Fred W

This was my second Smugmug shootout which I enjoyed even more than the first one. Besides watching and learning new techniques from Marc and Dave P, doing the late night and early morning shoots with so many other Smugmuggers was both a fun and engaging experience. I finally selected and processed some of my pictures from the Utah 2008 Shootout. Many of my shots are similar to ones already posted so I tried to select some with different subjects or perspectives.

Thanks for looking. Any comments or crits are welcome. :D:D

This picture is a fisheye perspective looking through Turret Arch with Windows Arch in the background.

This one is a pre-dawn fisheye with Turret Arch and close to a 360 deg capture of the night sky.

The next two are night shots of Double Arches with moonlight only.

The next few pictures were taken early morning at Dead Horse Point.

Here are Marc, Pathfinder, and others getting ready to shoot Delicate Arch at sunset. The hike up the trailhead to get here seemed never ending. Once we got to the top of the trail the wind was incredibly strong. It was amazing the number of people that were up here but most left as soon as the sun set. The ones that stayed into early evening were rewarded with awesome light. :wink

This is a pano of Landscape Arch, probably one of the most photographed arches.

I took this one by turning 180 degrees from looking at Landscape Arch.

I found this tree on the trail walking back from Landscape Arch.

Here is another dead tree pic next to Double Arch. I light painted the tree with my LED headlight to highlight it.

Thanks Angela. My fisheye lens is a new addition to my lens set. Using it was a lot of fun and I hope to use it often.:D

    Great set, Fred!

I see that I should have stayed up on Delicate Arch longer. Great of the moonlight on the Arch!

Great captures, Fred! I think #8 is just perfect. I really can see a big difference in your photos since I first saw your shots from the Wild Utah workshop. Hanging out with Marc and Andy definitely comes with good benefits. lol3.gif

Thanks for the comments Stephanie. I think we all have enhanced our photographic skills by participating in Marc's workshops, Smugmug shootouts, and certainly the continuous interaction with the Dgrin forum. thumb.gifthumb.gif I am looking forward to continuing participation. :D:D
