Focus and Depth of Field.

I am hoping to get a better idea of focus distance and then from there depth of field. Suppose you had a 35mm camera and had an optical zoom factor of up to 10X. What range would 1X, 2X, and 3X in terms of feet from the lens to where you are focusing? If you consider 10X infinity, what is the max distance of 9X? From each spot, how much depth in terms of the more convenient of inches or feet does adjusting an f-stop down gain you? Is there a recognized sweet spot for getting the most focus range and most depth of field at a specific zoom and f-stop?
