My daughters team had a scrimmage last night. Perfect chance to test out my 'new' 70 - 200 mm. Well, talk about a topic for conversation.....

Asked many times over if I was a pro, and whether I did work for newspapers etc. My goodness.

The lens is sweet, a bit heavy, and will probably have me wanting a tc for it by the end of season. Those soccer pitches are big!

hey from toronto (yep i'm in your fair country today )

ann, start thinkin' monopod -- could help you tons during long soccer games. $100 - $200 usd, depending on steel or carbon fiber.

oh yeah, the tc1.4x is a nice add-on. you can even stack a canon and a cheap tamron and still shoot at f/4

Hey andy
Hows the weather in TO? It is snowing here AGAIN

I have a monopod, used it all indoor and will certainly be using it. Last night I mostly just wore the camera, it was way too cold to have my hands out of pockets, and it is heavy after an hour.
Now I need a bigger camera bag! I have to do a team photo before a game Sunday, so will need my 17 - 85 with me as well.

Congrats Ann

So besides the stares and comments due to the "whiteness" of your lens , did it help with your soccer pics? Faster AF? Sharper, or better contrast in your shots?

Last question, did everything work out with the mailing of this lens? It looks like I'll be sending another package up to Calgary So I'd like to let the prospective buyer in on any postal/customs issues that the 70-200mm may have encountered.

That's a real nice lens and I'm sooooo excited for you

Steve

Hi Steve
I still have to dl the pics - the whole camera was frozen last night, not to mention me - and it wasn't very good soccer. As far as being better, well my longest FL before this was 85mm, so ...(or the 828 plus tc - I am sure it will be ahead of that).

wrt the shipping, things went well. the package arrived in perfect condition, unopened. However, customs charged me $95 gst (gouge and screw tax) which I will now have to appeal - shouldn't be charged on used equipment.

I've told all of this to Pat as we were talking about him buying my 828 if I could part with it - I just don't know if I can...

Ann,
That's who I've been talking to also. If you can part with your 828, no problem. I have a mint 828 and my 717 just sitting around, so I figured I'd help a fellow Dgrinner out.

Steve

PS; let's see those pics when they're ready
