Backlinks Location

Hey All,

Where on my site should I place backlinks? Also, is there a specific way in which backlinks should be
listed, or just list the link?

I'm not sure what you are referring to by "backlinks". The breadcrumb includes a link to the folder in which the gallery resides. Are you looking for something else?

If you want to place a link in the form of an HTML statement on your site you can use an HTML content block. Drag a content block to the location in which you want to place the link.

You can also embed HTML in a gallery description or in a photo caption.

Hi Denise,

A backlink is a reference from some outside site to my site, and a reference from my site back to that site. It is standard, and from everything I read, the MOST important feature by far, for good Google SEO ranking. The reference from decent sites to your own gives your site credibiblity in Google's eyes. I just could not find WHERE to list a reference to that other site on my site. Should I just list it on my Home Page, do I have to list it in my blog, etc? A particular site that referred back to me, did it in a blog write-up. Thanks Denise :O)........Tom

Put it where you'd like to see it. There isn't a right or wrong here.

If you link to another site there are two forms of the HTML <a href= statement. One will take the viewer away from your site, using the same browser window. The second will open a second browser window. To open a second browser window use the target attribute as shown at http://www.w3schools.com/tags/att_a_target.asp.

Some folks will be OK with you opening a second browser window without their requesting it. Some folks will not be. If I am on a web site and it opens a second browser window without my explicitly asking for it I will close both the newly opened tab and the site that opened it. If you choose to open a different browser window make sure your usual viewers don't have my habits.

Thanks - Do you know if it OK to list all of my links to other sites on a non-public page on my site? Would that still work, for the purpose of proper backlinks? Also, is it ok "etiquette" to maybe create a page on my site and call it something like "Recommended Sites" or something similar and list all the outside links there? See what I'm asking?

As far as I know a page that is not set to public will not be seen by search engines. So a non-public page won't do anything for you.

You can do whatever you would like. Add a page of links, or add links to existing pages.

I disagree with that. I think the the page's title is the most important for ranking. Smugmug still isn't as good as my WordPress as far as editing individual <title> tags. <img src="https://us.v-cdn.net/6029383/emoji/mwink.gif" border="0" alt="" >
